Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, I wasn't really sure where to put it.

I was cleaning up folders in my SkyDrive and I came across one that said "my phone export" and has a bazillion pictures in it. I assume I did this with my old phone, thing is.. I can't see the pictures. In SkyDrive they are just grey boxes and if I download a picture, it names itself image3.jpg.webintents. If I rename it and get rid of the .webintents part, I can see the picture.

What I want to know is, what the heck is webintents? how did it attach it self to my pictures? and is there anyway (I've already looked but I might have missed something) for me to be able to change/get rid of the webintents extensions IN SkyDrive? I really don't want to have to download over 200 pictures and change each extension individually just to see (if I want to even keep) the picture.

    Thanks Thanks all!

Strange, I Googled it, but did not find much. Subscribed out of curiosity.

Not really my area of expertise, ('prolly Adryn knows all about this?), but hope this helps. It appears that Google Chrome has support for Web Intent files. Also, consider one of the many bulk re-namer progs. if you do wish to re-name en-mass.

So I figured it out.. kind of. I noticed when I got home and accessed SkyDrive from Firefox, the pictures were still grey boxes....

but I didn't get the same .webintents extension when downloaded, it just downloaded the .jpg. It only does this in Chrome. Odd....

    Downloaded from Chrome:

    Downloaded from Firefox:

    So I found this... http://www.chromium.org/developers/web-intents-in-chrome

I don't really understand any of it and I still don't know how it got attached to these pictures when none of my other pictures are like this. I am still looking for a way to be able to see these pictures without having to download each one just to see if I want to keep it.

This is quite a mystery! :-D

can you rename them as .jpg instead of .jpg.webintents?

When I upload to Google Drive and then download to my desktop this creates some angst. Irfranview is the solution...

Delete from Skydrive- yeah, let us know. I have a Skydrive account, but never uploaded anything.

I can rename them, after I download them. I was hoping that someone could tell me how to view them without having to download them all first. :confused

If you have a Skydrive local folder, can you preview with Irfranview?
    :confused

I would use the SkyDrive app https://skydrive.live.com/ if using a different browser then its going to be weird in usage.

Also depends on what Windows version and SP used?

This might sound stupid but how do you have a local folder? you mean on the pc? :confused

That's address I always use. I have tried this on my work PC (Win XP SP3 (yea I know we are behind the times LOL) on Chrome and at home on my Win 7 SP1 on both Chrome & FF.

I've never heard of webintents, dy, but it occurred to me that you mentioned they came from your phone...is it an Android? I thought maybe if it's an android, which is google and it does it in chrome, which is also google, maybe that where it came from somewhere along the way?

Ohhh dear god never use Chrome as its like a leaky sieve, personal data and more so its updater is of concern to me and others, Fx is ok as is Ie9 or Ie10

No, it's a Windows Phone and the pictures don't show up on my mobile or my desktop:

funny story that just happened: My sister (this is the one who has me fix her computer ALL the time and is always asking me technology related questions) has been trying to get me to switch to a droid and I just don't want one, all most everything I use is connected to Windows in some way. I have a gmail account but I never use it. So we are going back and forth and she is telling me how great it is and how you can have "pretty" text messages and I tell her I need functionality over pretty.

Me: If you can find me a droid that will sync to hotmail (SkyDrive, etc) and then I'll think about it.
Her: what is SkyDrive?? nobody knows what that is!
Me: just because you don't know, doesn't mean nobody knows ms. over dramatic :-D
Me: why don't you look it up and see what it is.
I'm technology queen, I know about everything and I don't know about this and it sucks.
Me: You are not technology queen!!! roflmaoroflmaoroflmaoroflmaoroflmao
(this reply must have got her panties in a bunch :-D)
Her: ms. snooty get your pompous attitude together, it stinks.
Me: Whoa, wait a minute. you call yourself technology queen, constantly bash my product and I'M snooty and pompus??? pot meet kettle, seriously.

    rolleyes

Really? I always heard it was the *best* browser out there? I use FF at home but Chrome at work (because it's faster than FF on my slow pc for some reason). I will never use IE.. I've tried and even the newer versions (I think I have IE 9) and I hate it. :-D

IE10 I good but I use Fx Nightly http://nightly.mozilla.org/ as its a great browser apart from IE, IE 9 and 10 are good and are more secure that what you'd think.

Chrome has too many updater background apps to make me feel safe, just not convinced as it as a browser that's for the user, think its more for google.

I got sick of the forever updating on FF and got used to the sync between desktop and laptop.

Meh, I have Gmail, Listen, Drive, etc. They know all about me already.

hhehehehe I always "Keep Calm" and keep on going......

On Chrome as a Browser we have just had out Gov IT dept canned it as not so secure yet! they seem to have found issue with it and I do too personally, I would rather use IE9 and 10 or FX and FX 19.0a which is a beta but I'd rather be ahead of the curve as you likely know already, but its a great browser.

I found this thread trying to Google the same question. This is what I found:

'Webintents' appears to be something related to RSS feeds. I have a secure RSS feed I was trying to subscribe to, but it was a .php page with a giant list of variables after it. (Example: blah.net/feeds.php?feed=torrent_notify_11294234299&user=11233423423&authkey=7743a334) If I paste this path into Chrome I would be prompted to save a .webintents file.

Paste it into IE9? My list of torrents exactly as expected.

Seems to be a Chrome issue with parsing RSS/XML.

    Good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to reply but honestly, I have no idea what you are talking about. LOL

I have no idea what an RSS/XML feed is, or what a .php page is? (I know, I know.. how can I call myself a geek :-o )

I tried copy/pasting the link into IE but I still got that stupid gray box :-D

I gave up, those pictures can't be that important. :-D
