What kind of earbuds do folks around here use?

I used to go with ~50 dollar skull candy buds and was fairly happy. That is, until I found Etymotic. I got a SMOKING deal on hf3 earbuds for 70.00 (they can go for up to 180+). Since then, I have been in audio heaven. The sound they produce is just awesome, that is, if you learn to properly fit them in your ear.

Through stupid luck, I ended up testing for them now. I test their hf2 earbuds (once again pretty high end) on Android devices. They just recently came out with a programmable noise isolation app for Android (has been out on iOS for a while). Very cool! When my music is playing, I can't hear anything. When the noise threshold goes higher than what I set it for, it turns the mic on and lowers the music volume so that I can hear my surroundings.

I know, this sounds like a marketing ad, but I just wanted to express how very happy I am with this company and their products.

I haven't spent more than $5 for a pair of earbuds. I don't really use them as it's pretty hard for me to find ones that actually fit (and stay) in my ear.

Same here. I only use "old school" over the ear headphones.

You don't know what you are missing.

Try to find foam fitting earbuds. Those are going to be the best, aside from custom tips.

I only usually get SONY MDRex210's or similar spec with the 13.5mm driver,I love the quality but more importantly I like the power, I've tried loads of earbuds and none of them come close to the mid priced sony's for power. I've had 2-3 pairs of these in the last couple of years and snapped them all:-D Sorry the last ones got dropped in my cup of tea.

The last ones I went for were some sennheiser cx400II, the top end vocal clarity was brilliant but the overall power and bass sucked. I say was because they had the stickiest rubber wire coating that wrapped round my leg while dangling off the table and snapped, they were fixable but then got vaccum'd :-D

The player I use is a 160gb Ipod classic.

I'd be warey about going for a deal on headphones especially if they're a lot less than marked price as there are a lot of fakes about, not advice just saying. I hate shopping for sound equipment in general as you never know who to trust and audio is very subjective.

They have an odd shaped driver? What's the power like?

I ended up with a ~$20 pair of Skullcandy, and I love them. But then I'm not one of those people who has to have the best, clearest, whatever fabulous sound, I just want to hear my music. Thus why I am in lighting rather than audio. :-D

I have a cheap pair I found discarded at Starbucks one night when my others died.

It was skullcandy that died and they covered them under warranty. I never have ordered the replacements yet.... ;)

I use a set of Motorola S10-HD bluetooth headphones. Yes, using bluetooth isn't the best for fidelity but I use them while cutting the grass, trimming etc so the noise floor is pretty high to begin with.

Have you considered noise cancelling ones? Should drown that all out.

You are probably right. My cheap $5 headphones aren't that great but they make due. Maybe you missed my thread on Misphonia but I actually really don't like listening to music all that often. In fact, I kind of hate it. I really have to be in the mood for it. So, it would not be financially feasible for someone like me to invest in good headphones. :-D

$5? That's insane. I don't pay more than a buck. Dollar Tree rules...

I tend to use Sennheiser or Bose and last few pairs have tended to be Bose one and these HERE.

I'm really open to trying new ear phones that are really good it well recommended.
