Page Preeze was added to Major Geeks and the Robo Shopper installs without an uninstaller. It says it's not Malware on Virus Total but shouldn't I have the option to install Robo Shopper or be warned of it? Not sure where to post this but thanks anyways.

    Hi

Cheers for this report and while some applications don't come with an uninstaller, and you just delete the installed Program Files folder, not many would know to do this, so I will forward your concerns to the owners of Majorgeeks and suggest they add a warning on installation.

Would have been nice if you had added the link to the download on Majorgeeks to save me having to search for it, but I'm a kind soul and wont penalise you for that ;)

Again aside joking above, thanks for the info and feedback, its appreciated.

Apologies in advance if I am putting my 2 cents worth in where it is not wanted but.......Like grabacontroller I was surprised to find that a download (pagebreeze) from the majorgeeks site would be allowed to install additional software (Roboshopper.exe )without some warning/mention. Stealth installation of additional software such as this should be actively discouraged.

Apparently this may not be the view taken by moderator (DavidGP) as he just suggests that this is ok as some applications don't come with an uninstaller, and that one should just delete the installed Program Files folder, while acknowledging that not everyone would know how to do so !!!

DavidGP also implies that the Roboshopper install is just a link to the Roboshopper website, in this I believe he is incorrect, unless that is that something has changed and that the standard method of providing a link "http://www.????????.??? no longer works and that now an executible file such as in this case Roboshopper.exe is required to provide a link !!!

Any stealth install, unless it is clearly advertised to the downloader, even if it is only a link is unwelcome in my book. This is the same slippery slope that most IT professionals know only too well in regards to stealth installs/updates.

I believe it would be a pity to see MajorGeeks endorse this totally unnecessary and unacceptable behaviour, however if DavidGP's answer is majorGeeks policy then that is appearently what is happening.

No such suggestion was made that I read.

He never said or got close to implying that either...

I'm certain the owner/operators of this site will do the right thing here, they always do.

    @vmaloney:

    1. Check the date of the original posts in this thread (05-12-11) - don't you think that's a little outdated?

    2. This is your first post in the MajorGeeks Support Forums, and you decide to flame a moderator? Not a good way to get started...

    3. This is a support forum, not a soapbox - diatribes should be posted in the Lounge. In the future (if you do have a future here), you should read and understand the tech support guidelines before posting.

Just curious what this means; I always have difficulties understanding 6-digit dates...
    2005-12-11 (Dec 11 2005) ?
    2011-05-12 (May 05 2011) ?
Other (since each of the numbers could be a year, month, or day) ?

Yeah, I'm used to dates in the form of dd:mm:yy
The dates displayed here are in the form of mm-dd-yy, so 05-12-11 would be May the 12th, 2011.
    HTH :)

Agreed - that's why I always use the military date system that was drilled into me for 10 years (U.S. Army). For example: today's date is 10Oct2012. No room for error. :major
