Shaving - Manual or Electric

I absolutely hate shaving. Nonethless, I have enjoyed a Panasonic razor for many years. The last one had a water bath and then air dried itself. It was ok, but the last time I needed blades - $45 was painful. While at the Geeks Mecca (Fry's Las Vegas) I purchased a similar device for $29. 15 months later, time to replace blades..... which are $79.:confused:eek

What do you use to shave - Manual?
    2-blade
    3-Blade
    4-blade
    5-blade

    Electric?

    Brand?

Like you I also despise shaving. I usually use a remington electric shaver. If I had more motivation I would use my razor more often. :)

I use a Gillette fusion proglide 5 blade.
It give a really close shave that i personally can not get from an electric (tried a few) and although the blades last a long time they are really expensive ($40 for 8 here) but i have yet to find anything better.

I used to use my grandfather's Gotta cut throat razor. I originally had three of them but now only have one left.

Eventually I got sick of sharpening them and it takes longer to have a shave with a cut throat so now I have a beard and use number 2 clippers every three weeks .... life is good :-D

I've found the Schick Quattro Titanium Freestyle razor and trimmer combo in one, (four blade version), one of the best I've used, (and I've used a LOT). Most are just crud and go blunt after two or three usages, but that one appears to keep it's edge for a fair while.

The Philips HQ9190 Philishave Smart Touch XL Mains / Rechargeable Shaver works well for me for electric version.
    {Cut-throats are the best, but my skin is so tissue paper thin, that I hack my mug to pieces these days, if I try to use it.}

Hehehe yep and and a cut throat razor sure can cut if you slip. Especially the area under your nose and it is so sharp you don't feel the cut at first but you definitely see the blood so then you need one of these to stop the bleeding :cry

It is a styptic pencil and they sure do sting but they work ;)

    What kind of electic?

I would abandon the blood letting, but SWMBO has threatened me. :p

I agree - have been using a Quattro for years.

My skin is sensitive, so the shaving cream also makes a big difference. Nivea is the only major brand that doesn't make my face break out.

Fortunately I can get away with the med-heavy stubble look, so I actually use a beard trimmer and drag it upwards once every few days.
I wet shave about once every 2 months or when I need to, I actually did today for no apparent reason.

The best ones I ever used were Wilkinson Sword Protectors, I used them for years until I moved here and although Schik are available they are not the same.
I bought one of those wet shave 5 blade vibrating razors, it's kind of annoying because it is hard to hold properly while it's whirring :-D

I want to get an electric, but I don't want a cheap one and I'm reluctant to spend money on one.

But yes, I could grow a full beard in maybe 3 weeks and I hate shaving with a passion.
The main reason I don't wet shave more often is because no matter what cream/gel or razor I use, I still get razor burn on my neck, never cut myself but always get razor burn.

Hate it, should be illegal :-D

Manual shaving. I use a Gillette Mach3 (three blade)and Gillette Fusion (five blade). When I first got the Fusion I found it quite bulky to use. Once I got used to it, it's the best shave I've had. However the blades aren't cheap apparently, so I mostly use the Mach3.
I usually shave every other day to avoid razorburn, but the longer I go between shaves, the better the shave.
I used to grow a beard in the winter, but there's too much grey in it now.
I absolutely hate shaving. I've considered stuff like Neet, but I doubt that'll happen. I don't know if it would work on my sandpaper stubble anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I will either see if there are deals close to Christmas Shoplifting season or watch for a bargain at CVS on a wetblade and better shaving cream.

I have used a Mach 3 for years, and usually shave in the shower or right after I get out. My skin/hair isn't excessively oily, but as long as my face gets a good soak I don't need shaving cream (your body oils are miscible in water). Fortunately, the lack of needing shaving cream leaves a few extra bucks for the damnably expensive razor blades. :mad

Years ago a cousin of mine, rest her soul, had a bout with cancer so some of us got together and shaved our heads. I kept doing it for a while after she was in remission, 'cause I figured it would be cheaper than the barber. Why water a dead tree, y'know?

    WRONG!!!

Ended up shelling out more to Gillette, than at the local tonsorial...

Had to shave practically every day for 10 years when I was in the service, so I kind of got away from it. I'll usually trim the beard every few days with a Wahl electric just to keep "The Boss" happy, but I'm not religious about it.

I do shower at least once a day whether I need it or not, so it ain't like I got bird's nests growing in there or anything...

And - have you noticed that it's just us guys who are posting in this thread? Weird...:confused

Likely because most women wouldn't touch an electric razor. If you don't like the manual razor, the alternative is usually waxing or laser hair removal. In the states, not removing hair is usually not a choice.

I use rubbing alcohol and a match, there will never be anything that gets closer than that.

When I don't feel like setting fire to my face I normally use a Mach 3.

In one of life's twisted ironies, at 15 years old I started to lose my hair at the same time I had to start shaving . . . rolleyes

I've tried all forms of shaving . . . electric, manual, straight razor (I don't like to talk about that one), but I settled on and have stuck with for decades the simple three-blade type system with disposable heads. I do bounce back and forth with brands, depending on what's on sale.

Like others here I'm a lazy SOB when it comes to shaving, which explains why I have sported a mustache since 15, and a full beard when I'm allowed. ;)

Being a big chicken I will not speak to the veracity of that statement. :-D

    Speaking of which:

A man walks into a barber shop and says, "I'll have a shave and a shoe shine."

The barber lathers his face and sharpens the straight edge while a woman with the biggest, most beautiful breasts he has ever seen kneels down and shines his shoes.

The man says, "You and I should spend some time in a hotel room."

She replies, "My husband wouldn't like that."

The man says, "Tell him you're working overtime, and I'll pay you the difference."

She says, "You tell him. He's the one shaving you."

    :eek
