    Hi all.

I have an Acer 2920 laptop, with Win7 ultimate x86 installed.

I've never do a thing to my hardware, except I've upgraded my HDD from 160GB to 500GB last year.

2 years ago, I've dropped my latop and broke the adapter's point. I've opened my case, and glued it back together, and also, added some new heatsink over the already have one. The laptop then worked just fine.

Last month, the internal fan for the laptop started to make noise, but still working. The keyboard felt very hot. I opened the case, cleaned all my fan, HDD, RAM, and every possible and the CPU with some alcohol, and put fresh new heatsink. But the noise still won't stop. But the laptop still work fine. And no more 'very hot' on the keyboard.

Until last week, my laptop suddenly turn off and when I trun it back on, only dark screen appears, but the HDD works. I force re-boot the laptop, but still, the same error, maybe after several tries, it get till the Windows logo but stuck, and sometimes made it to the desktop but will hung and shut itself down.

Sometimes blue screen appear before it went out, sometimes just stuck with anything I was doing.

Please tell me what to do. I really appreciate it. Thanks! :)

It sounds like the PC has overheated to the point where either the CPU and/or on-board graphics card have suffered damage.

Try hooking an external VGA monitor to the PC. If the display issues also appear on the external monitor, it rules out a screen issue and points to the graphics card as the likely suspect.

If this is the case, you are left with the choices of replacing the motherboard or replacing the PC. If the cost of a replacement motherboard is over half the cost of buying a new PC with similar or better specs, I'd buy new. The new PC will have a one year warranty; a replacement board will have - at best - a 30 day warranty.

    Hope this helps.

    thank you for your reply.

After your respond, i decided to go to a repair shop and see can they do anything. The guy said he can try opening and clean all my hardware.

After the clean, no more sound made from the fan, and the laptop does not feel hot anymore.

But sometimes when i move the laptop for a little bit, it will hung, blue screen, and shut itself.

So, i don't think its the heat problem, i think some hardware is not properly in place or something like that.

But what do you suggest? Thank you so much for your help.

    Regards.

I'd say it is HDD problem, because you dropped it - might have suffered damage. And i also have problem with my HDD, and some simptoms look similar to yours.
If you know your HDD model and manufacturer try going to his site and look for diagnostics tools for HDD. If you run it and it says you have bad blocks/sectors then you'll know that's it. If it's not the problem, doesn't hurt to check your HDD anyway.
If you don't know your HDD manufacturer, go to this link, download this tool, and it will tell you http://majorgeeks.com/EVEREST_Free_Edition_d4181.html
