True that . . . :( As for gun control, I'm already reading they have accelerated the US participation in a United Nations weapons "treaty" . . . which the gun control lobby (imagine that) swears has nothing to do with lawful US gun owners . . . rolleyes

Wow - Ricky made it on TWO lists with one Google search! That ain't easy! :-D

Gun control is a good thing. Not sure how you legislate proper execution of controlled pairs... :major

I'm just wondering if there will be any gridlock these coming 4 years as the Republicans have more representatives in the House than the Dems? Would be really surprised if they would be working together. At least now McConnell cannot say anymore that he would make sure that President Obama would be a one-term president. Are you all looking forward to new (Congress representatives?) elections again in 2 years time or do I have that wrong? Seems to be that there are always some kind of elections going on south of the border.

Um, yeah. That's what I'm saying. They won both terms with both the popular vote and electoral college. Both terms, both ways. Notice I didn't include Bush Jr. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0781450.html
What Obama has done is to be the first since FDR to win a second term with over 7% unemployment. No other president since The Great Depression has garnered a second term if they didn't keep unemployment low, which is what prompted his comment on not getting re-elected if he didn't do so.

I figure if the gun control spectre didn't rear its ugly head in the first four years, odds are pretty good it's not going to in the second. Maybe we should find some other windmill to tilt at for a change. ;)

I remember in 2008 when all of my gun-loving friends were going out and buying every firearm they could get their hands on "before they are outlawed". rolleyes rolleyes

Remember the AWB back in the '90's?

“My belief is that, (A), we have to enforce the laws we’ve already got, make sure that we’re keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, those who are mentally ill. We’ve done a much better job in terms of background checks, but we’ve got more to do when it comes to enforcement.

“But I also share your belief that weapons that were designed for soldiers in war theaters don’t belong on our streets. And so what I’m trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence generally. Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced. But part of it is also looking at other sources of the violence. Because frankly, in my home town of Chicago, there’s an awful lot of violence and they’re not using AK-47s. They’re using cheap hand guns.”

Please note, it is pretty much impossible to get CCL in Chicago.

They are rocking that 'Shall not be infringed part' very well.

Mitt Romney won the support of 59 per cent of whites, but just 27 per cent of Latinos, 26 per cent of Asian-Americans and 6 per cent of African-Americans.

    U.S. Census Bureau.
It revealed that for the first time in American history, ethnic minorities now account for more than half the babies born in the U.S.

Of the four million children born in the year to July 2011, 50.4 per cent were ethnic minorities — black, Asian, mixed-race and, above all, Hispanic.

The non white vote is now a major influence in politics.

Someone emailed this to me, I think it's rather fitting. :-D

    Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc'-racy)

A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected to govern by the people least capable of contributing to society and the people least likely to sustain themselves or succeed who are then rewarded with goods and services paid for by confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Forgive me, I wasn't aware that you were breaking the popular vote down into race categories. He lost the overall popular vote, by about 3,000,000, or around 2%. I tend to not give much of a damn about segregating votes into categories. ;)

Yeah, West Aust. is one of the most multi-enithic places on earth. Three in every five are 1st gen migrants. Guess that reflects in the voting trends, too.

A little OT, but I wonder if all the laws to protect 'minorities' will apply to white people when we become a minority?:-D

The ones wanting to move to Canada better know in advance that we have universal healthcare, higher taxes and many other benefits that these peeps abhor. ;) :-D And better leave your guns at home because these arms won't be allowed to be imported here so easily.

To be fair, quite a few of the "other" side also wanted to move to Canada in case they lost.

We still have a lot of Americans who escaped to Canada many years ago to avoid the draft.

Papers, nope. Can't require that. :-D I saw the guy giving directions to Canada, pretty funny. :-D I heard Canada is not too picky about rifles and shotguns, just no handguns. Not for me!

I still say the problem with making laws to stop criminals is that it's oxymoronic. A criminal is by definition someone who doesn't respect the law.

It's not unlike having a fence gate that's chained shut , but separated from the fence by a few feet. It looks pretty, but it's going to stop no one longer than it takes them to wonder at your mental state.

Nevermind all the shootings where they go to those gun free zones specifically because there's no one to shoot back.

"I see it's already started for 2016. *sigh*"

Can they not just leave us alone for a year at least?

I don't remember who, but someone recommended going to a one 6 year term for POOTUS as opposed to two 4 year terms. I can see an advantage to that. A lot less political stuff, and no incumbent advantage. Not sold on it, but an interesting idea.

No, was just a simple typo. I may not like the man, but I respect the title and office of POTUS, so I may use that on this site.

    Pootus, not so much. :-D

I think a cousin of mine had POOTUS once. She had to take a regimen of powerful anti-biotics and carry a bucket around. But it could have been something else, I guess . . .

POOTUS = President Obama Of The United States... so there. ;) :p

It never occurred to me it was anything but a typo. You and I don't agree on a lot of things, but this one we do.

And even knowing some people do it on purpose...that was still a darn funny typo! LOL
