Hi, here's a strange one for you. My laptop has a broken screen, so I run it through a separate monitor. The other day I was getting rid of a surfeit of 'unwanted' progs, unfortunately I chose to delete my graphics driver I think it was ATI or CTI and now it won't go through to the monitor so I have no screen. I know I should have checked what I was deleting first, any ideas?

Hi my friend , what is the model of your laptop ? What is your Operating System ? At the bottom of the laptop there is a sticker , you have to follow this path

    Start
    Right click My Computer
    choose Properties
    choose Hardware tab
    choose Device Manager

inspecting if there is any yellow mark in Device Manager menu :wave

Thanks for the advice, but I can't follow it because I can't access the screen!

What I need to know is if there is a way I can install the drivers without having a screen to look at?

I don't want to bin it. I just need to know if there is a way I can install any kind of graphics driver without being able to look at the screen or follow any instructions requiring looking at the screen.

It's a Samsung R40 Running Windows XP, I always ran it with a separate monitor until I deleted the graphics driver software the other day. Now it won't connect to an external moitor. THAT is the problem.

    Is this your laptop ?

If you don't have the screen signal it's impossible installing the new driver even if your laptop isn't able to connect to external monitor your graphic card is faulty i think :wave

Depending on the type of display you may need the graphics software, but if you hook up a normal vga style monitor windows should have the basic functionality to make that work on its own.

It's a regular monitor but I think I need the driver as Windows doesn't seem to want to drive an external monitor.

Hi Falconattack, when you say to press fn+F3,F4,F5,F8 etc. do you mean hold fn key down then press F3,F4,F5,F8? and what do you mean by etc? Those specific keys in that exact order, then more Function keys? I don´t have my laptop in front of me otherwise I would just experiment. I'll try tomorrow after the Formula 1 qualifying in Austin Texas (curiously F1), could this be a sign? If this works I'll buy some lottery, thanks in advance Falconattack.

It doesn't work I'm afraid. I think it needs ATI graphics driver, so I'm back to the beginning again. Surely there must be a cd that installs some kind of graphics driver outomatically?

    Hi

Possible you need to now re-install the Chipset HERE and reboot, then install the VGA driver HERE and then reboot and test your PC out.

Hoping these are the correct drivers as they are for a Samsung R40 but a UK model as we do not have your full model coding which could look like NP-R40/M00/SUK

Even you can follow this :wave

Start - Run type this mmc devmgmt.msc - Ok - right click to yellow device - Properties - Details - scroll down the arrow finding Hardware ids - there is a code in the box , we need it ( select all - copy - paste ) the code here

I'm a 53 yr old recovering stroke victim. I've just sent the exact model number and have tried to follow your suggestions and download the chipsets etc: I don't find this kind of thing easy at all. You talk about installing this software. rebooting the laptop etc. I'm not sure how I can install anything without being able to see the screen, and that's if I get that far! But I'm up for trying.

Typed in the address. Can´t see a 'yellow device'. I need to be spoon-fed I think.
