Quick Launch, Toolbar and Start Menu not working properly

Running Windows XP. Quick Launch buttons and Start Menu items will only open with right click and "open". Toolbar items not showing up on startup - I have to manually right click and open the QL and Desktop toolbars that I use.

Also, possibly related, when I save an item to my desktop I often have to right click and "refresh" for it to show up. Not always, but often.

I have checked your "Read & Run Me First" and followed those guidelines.

I have downloaded the malware and ran those yesterday, as specified. I attached the 5 logs (I think).

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Your logs only showed some minor adware that was cleaned up with the scans. I don't believe your problems have anything to do with malware. You should try shutting down Norton to see if that changes anything. Then also try the below. If these do not help, I suggest that you post in our Software Forum.

*sigh* Glad to know it isn't malware.

I'll post it in the other forum (which I thought I had done in the first place..?).

    Thanks!

    You're welcome.
Nope. This is the Malware Removal Forum. The Software forum is here >> Software

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
