I have a problem. I tried install printer on my friend's computer and it wouldn't recognize it. Finally I found that 'usb root hub driver is either missing or corrupt.' As internet is not available on that computer I am using other computer. More information:
    O.S.: Windows XP Pro. Sp.2
    Driver No.: 5.1.2600.0 (xp client 010817 - 1148)
I got this information from Device Manager.
Pl. let me know how to get and install the driver. Please note I have to download it from this computer and install it on that.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

This looks to be a standard XP item.

Click Start > Run and enter sfc /scannow
    Press Enter.

Run the check, see if scannow will repair the system...

Thank You cipher for your prompt response. The problem was solved in a very simple way. Through Bing I visited another site after the post where someone answered for someone else's problem. He/She said uninstall the yellow root hub devices and restart. And the problem vanished and the printer is now installed.

You would also be well advised to install SP3. Many USB problems were solved with that install.

    Re: sp 3

    @ Ewen
I have it in my virtual Machine in windows 7, courtesy Microsoft. My friend is happy with sp2.

Support for XP SP2 ended on 13 July 2010 so your friend has not been getting any security updates for more than 2 years. That's not good!

plodr makes a great point. What reason would there be not to install SP3? :confused

Best Practice dictates having the latest available updates/patches.

    @cipher,
My friend, like me is an old man and does not want changes that he is not comfortable with. I have explained and shown my sp3 but he is not interested. So OK, to each his own, Right?
