    Hello,

I've been to Major Geeks many, many times over the years for help with various issues. I've never had to ask for help in the past; however, this one has me at my witt's end!

I'm running an HP Pavillion dv5140 with Win XP Media Center 2005, 2GB RAM, 2.1GHz processor (?), and currently in Safe Mode, as the computer will not run in Normal Mode. It seems as if the problem developed rather slowly. First (a month ago?), the hard drive started acting up, gradually spinning more and more rapidly when I entered commands and eventually spinning hard when I did something as simple as move the cursor. About a week ago, the keyboard got involved by skipping some of whatever I typed. At that point, I was pretty sure some malware was involved and I started investigating. The computer ran slower and s-l-o-w-e-r. I avoided restarting as long as possible, but eventually I lost use of the task bar, the start menu, the registry editor, the option to restore, and task manager before it froze completely.

After a restart, the computer wouldn't load entirely in Normal Mode, and each time I tried to load, I had less function than the time before. I finally just loaded into Safe Mode with Networking, came to Major Geeks, and started running the recommended software. After running everything and fixing what you guys requested, the computer loaded into Normal mode. At that point, I began running the anti-malware again in Normal Mode; however, I only made it through RogueKiller and Malwarebytes before I was locked up. So, you will see that I included two Rk logs: RKreport[1] was run in Safe Mode, and I included RKreport[2], which I was able to run later in Normal Mode, because it has more information re the malware. Interestingly (to me at least), Malwarebytes didn't find anything in either mode, despite the name change. I appreciate whatever help you can offer. I'm noticing now that even Safe Mode has some symptoms, as the keyboard is occasionally skipping some of what I'm typing. I suppose I'll submit this now and wait for some response....

    Cheers,

Kristine--getting ready to start on the other computer because the rapid spinning of the hard drive has started there now as well. Grrrr!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

We need the requested C:\MGlogs.zip file from running MGtools. Also you did not attach the log from Malwarebytes.

It sounds more like you are having hardware problems.

Uninstall the non-recommended Uniblue software you installed.

Per your request, Uniblue's DriverScanner is uninstalled. And again, Thank you so much for your help.

    Cheers,
    Kristine

I'm still desperately in need of help with my computer. I believe I attached the correct documents in my previous post, so if there is something else I should be doing or providing for you, please let me know as soon as you can. Even if I could just find out what the name is of the malware that is on my computer, I could probably troubleshoot it from that point myself. My other computer is having symptoms similar to the symptoms this computer was having when it first became infected, so I really need to figure this out. Will somebody be able to get back with me any time soon?

    Cheers,
    Kristine

You should have heeded the instructions that told you not to bump! Everytime you post another message, you bump yourself to the bottom of the queue not the top.

Your safe boot mode logs do not show any malware problems. I suggest that you post in the hardware forum and possibly run some tests on your hard disks or run some checks to see if there are any driver conflicts that are being your problems with booting in normal mode. McAfee could potentially even be a problem.
