Did a search and could not find anywhere discussed what I am wanting to do.

Is there any way I can connect my android phone to my computer, and use my pc monitor to see what is on my phones screen?
Mainly I am wanting to use it to surf the web.

I appreciate your help and suggestions.

Might try airdroid, i know it has many options that allow texting from a web browser and few other things, never looked to see if it allows web browsing.

Thank you. I'll see if I can find that and give it a shot.

Are you trying to browse sites and not have them appear from your home isp? Or do you not have internet at your home? Maybe tethering is more something we should be looking at.

Ok, I tried the airdroid, but couldn't get the browser to work.
Looks like the apps would work.
I think the tethering would be the way to go, since the airdroid
runs wireless, and since no internet, there's no need for wireless.
How would I go about tethering my phone to either the computer
    or just the monitor?
Thanks so much for all the help.

Okay let's slow this thread down a little.

Do you want to send a video signal from your droid to an external monitor?

If so what model cell phone/ Droid do you have?

    By the way nice avatar...

LOL...yeah, I like your avatar also.

Yes, what I'm hoping to do is to send a video signal from my phone
to either my computer, or just to the monitor, so I can use my phones
    browser to surf the internet.
I have a LG Marquee, LG-855 and it says Android version 2.3.4.

Why do you want to use your phones browser on a bigger monitor? I missing something here. Phones browsers are meant for small screens not large screens and lack many features of a normal browser.

No internet, no wi-fi calls for desperate measures.
Dial up is available, but very few web sites are written with dial up in mind.
Tired of squinting to see the web pages on my phone, and got the idea that maybe this was possible.

Ok, then you definitly want tethering, try the app foxfi, offers free wifi tethering on some phones, and has bluetooth tethering for those that can't use the wifi.

Thanks a bunch. I'll download it and report back how it works.
I really appreciate all the help.

    PDANet.

    Tether, and charge.

Unless Bluetooth is a viable option.

Foxfi seems to work better then pdanet on most devices i try these days mekanic, pdanet was the bomb back in the day. Foxfi is nice cause it doesn't require rooting your device.

Neither does PDANet. The most recent version required no rooting when using it with my Android.

What I like about the tether mode is that it keeps the phone charged while mobile. Not everyone has the latest, greatest hardware. I just threw a Frankenputer someone's way, and the unit it replaced had over a decade worth of hours on it. Your average Android device in use out there most likely runs Gingerbread.

FoxFi piggybacks with the latest version of PDA, giving you the best of all worlds.

As for video output from this cellphone, the better option would be to use it as a "hotspot" for 3G, or better speeds if capable.

Hotspots usually are an extra charge through.

Depending on the carrier, you are correct.

I've got an LG Optimus from Net10. Android, touch screen, and a flat rate of $50 for unlimited everything. You can do whatever you want with it, that's the beauty of no contract. Is it as spectacular as the latest, greatest phones? Nope. But, it gets the job done.

I'm actually saving up to buy an unlocked version of a Samsung so I can buy a Net10 SIM, and keep that nice flat rate with a phone of my choice.

Sorry read a few posts and saw that no one was getting to what the OP was asking for.. "use my pc monitor to see what is on my phones screen?" .. so I skipped down and answered.
The LG is not listed as compatible, but maybe it has not been tried? The device works on 2.3 and up. If not he needs to keep looking for a vnc server that runs on Android, so he can remote to his phone via PC - basically what the j5 does.

Turns out tethering is also an acceptable solution for what he wants, thats why i read all the posts when i post.
