    Hi

The past few weeks I've been having problems with my laptop. Whenever I tell it to hibernate, it shutsdown like it normally does. When I turn the computer back on it tells me it didn't shutdown properly and needs to repair itself. The option of Hibernating has disappeared from the start menu as well. When I tell it to shutdown it just restarts. After the repair it gives me a report saying I have a corrupt Kdcom.dll file.

A few days later my anitvirus software (Microsoft Security Essentials) went nuts telling me to scan and it found a DOS Trojan Alureon. It tells me to clean computer but it doesn't find anything. It tells me to download Windows Defender Offline but that doesn't find anything either.

I read a post on here from this past June with the exacpt same problem and they were told they had a Pihar.B virus. I did all the Scans from the Malware Removal Guide emailed to me when I signed up here. I have all the logs and uploaded all 5 of them.

I have a Dell XPS with Windows 7 and I do not have a Windows 7 Recovery DVD. Im pretty sure I know how I got this virus but I haven't been able to prove it.

    Please help me

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please rerun TDSSKiller and attach a new log so we can verify that it actually was successful at removing the infection.

This new log shows the infection was removed. Are you still having problems?

What actual Java file are you looking for?

My computer still wont shutdown properly or hibernate. The Hibernate option doesn't even appear in the start menu. Plus MSE is still telling me to scan with WDO. I do know that I have a corrupt kdcom.dll file which might me causing my computer to not shutdown properly.

About Java, I dont know which file(s) to delete because its doesn't show up in my default programs so I cant unistall it. I dont want it on my computer anymore.

This may not be a problem for the Malware Forum. You can post about this in the Software Forum or possibly Hardware Forum. However let's finish your cleanup first ( we have more to do ) and then see what happens.

    WDO ???

Also something you either need to repair on your own or in the Software Forum. Look for a backup copy and replace it possibly in safe boot mode or from the Recovery Environment.

Both Java versions I mentioned show in your logs in the Uninstall Programs list. Not sure what you do not see it but you can try using the below to find and remove. Also you need a Java version on your PC or you will have issues on tens of thousands of websites. That is why I said install the new version.

See if you can uninstall the old Java's with this >> Revo Uninstaller

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Right-click OTM.exe and select Run as administrator to run it.
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:

    explorer.exe

    :Files

    C:\Users\Taylor\AppData\Local\common_functions.dll
    C:\Users\Taylor\AppData\Local\ie_runner_app.exe

    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

MSE is Microsoft Security Essentials and WDO is Windows Defender Offline. I installed avast! antivirus software for the time being and turned off MSE because it was annoying.

Didn't realize I needed java for a lot of sites. Everytime I go to my uninstall programs list the 2 java updates you are talking about aren't there. They used to be but I don't know what happened to them.

I will get back to you about the new scans you gave me.

Ok Java was updated, and I did the OTM and MGtools scan.

Here are the logs you asked for.

Not recommended as it frequently breaks things.

You should not be doing anything but what is requested while working here. This was explained at the beginning of the READ & RUN ME. Now that you did this, you will need to uninstall Avast and also you MUST uninstall MSE too. Do this immediately. Then you need to redo the below and attach a new log because your last log was extremely incomplete. Possibly due to the two protections programs still running. You cannot disable MSE, it has to be uninstalled before you ever install any other antivirus program.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Did you use Revo as requested?

Sorry about the antivirus software. I did run Revo but it didn't find Java at all, so I just installed Java from the Java link you gave me. I got rid of all antivirus software. When will I be able to re-download MSE?

    Here is the new log

    Yes when we are ready.

Your new log was extremely incomplete. Please the below again and wait until it finishes before trying to attach the log. It will tell you when it is finished in the black command prompt window.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

    The below are still present:

    Java(TM) 6 Update 22
    Java(TM) 6 Update 37

We will remove them manually below.

    • Right-click OTM.exe and select Run as administrator to run it.
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

    Looks good.

Are you having any more malware problems?

  18. lzepplin1975

    lzepplin1975 Private E-2

As far as I know no. Wont know completely until I install MSE. I still have that software/hardware problem but I'm not sure what forum to post my proplem under (software or hardware problems). I really appreciate you helping me with all of this. If I hadn't found this place I probably would have had a major issue resulting in a broken computer.

Never heard of these scans before and they really helped.

    Thanks again

Finish the below and install MSE at the end of it.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Try the Software Forum.

    What specific tools?

  21. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Anything you don't want that we had you download. Like possibly Revo Uninstaller, OTM, ....etc . Anything left over after running MGclean.bat. It will remove most but not always everything.

  22. lzepplin1975

    lzepplin1975 Private E-2

Ok completed everything. One thing about disabling Autoruns, they didn't have my OS update (Windows 7). What should I do?

And should I hide files that I unhid to perform the scans? For clarification I'm refering to step 3 in the Read Me guide under "Enable viewing of hidden files, system files and file extensions"

  23. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

    Use this >> Autorun Eater

Running MGclean.bat hides them. Basically it sets them back to Windows Defaults regardless of of your preferences since most people do not change them. If you prefer to not have anything hidden ( I don't like anything hidden, since it gives malware easy hiding places ), then unhide them again.
