    We presently use Windows XP
The Control Panel shows we have "Java 7 Update 7" and "Java(TM) 6 Update 29" installed.

I'm attempting to update them so as to have the most current editions.

Do I need to update both of these? (I'm guessing they are different and both required for whatever reasons.)
Should I "uninstall" both prior to getting the newest editions?
Where would be the best/safest place to get the newest editions? (I did find http://java.sun.com so I'll check there; however, my son went over there and said he could not find anything about whether or not we should uninstall what we have...not even a place on that site that permits downloads.)

Sure would appreciate some help. Thanks

    Greetings, motdaugrnds...

No need for both versions, so I suggest uninstalling both and then downloading and installing Java 7 Update 10. Oracle is phasing out Java 6

Caliban has already provided the link at Major Geeks, but here are the Oracle links.

Java Downloads for All Operating Systems

Why should I uninstall older versions of Java from my system?

Good question! However, the MG link to to the author's 32-bit download does indeed deliver the following:

    Code:
    jre-7u10-ea-bin-b10-windows-i586-03_oct_2012.exe
