    Hi, I have a Dell Latitude E6430 running Win 7 32 bit.
    Antivirus = Trend (corporate)
    Firewall = On-Line Armor
    Anti-Malware - Malwarebytes - run occasionally on demand
    This is a new laptop. I have been installing my software off the old XP machine and it has developed a problem on the main menu: a white rectangle situated in the top left hand corner. The only way to remove it is to click on the tiny rectangle on the bottom right hand corner.
    How do I get rid of this? It hides icons and is a PITA

    Really need a screenshot of what you are talking about.

    I could not do a screenshot of the main menu, so resorted to photographing it
    Hope this works.
    I can get the rectangle to appear just by going into Excel and exiting. Sometimes it is 'hard'sometimes transient. clicking the rectangle bottom left temporarily clears it.
    ???

    With the rectangle showing: Ctrl+alt+del and note what processes are running (maybe a picture if you don't wish to write everything down)
    Close the rectangle and note ctrl+alt+del what process or processes are now gone.
    Post what you've discovered so we can help you disable it from starting up.

    If you run into this common problem again you can usually use PrtScrn to put the screen onto your clipboard, then Paste into Paint and crop the bit you want.

    HTH :)

    Actually 7 makes it easy with the snipping tool. It doesn't require all the steps of printsceen and paint.

    The problem with the snipping tool is that any transient objects, like dropdown menus and - I suspect - this white square instantly disappear as soon as you touch a key or mousepad, and that's why the OP can't capture it. However with PrtScrn you can.

    Good catch nullptr! I've heard of Soluto and was thinking of trying on computers of seniors I help and now I'll be aware of a gotcha!

    Hi All, Tx for the replies. Problem solved: According to a techie at work it is due to the Dell Backup and recovery software having been installed and not implemented. Disabled that and problem gone away.
    Tx again for the responses
