I downloaded Advance systemcare 6 free edition and when i ran it and everything was repaired i couldn't open any programs. None of the desktop icons worked. I rebooted and now it's fine. Is that supposed to happen, it doesn't say you have to reboot. Also i ran it in expert mode, it seems to be more detailed and does more scans. Should i be doing that or is the simplified mode better. The registry scanner seems to find alot more than CCleaner does. Is it ok to use.

In my experience these programmes cause more trouble than they supposedly repair, quite candidly they should be avoided at all costs.

so is it better to have individual programs such as CCleaner, disk defrag, uninstall.

Most certainly.. CCleaner will remove unnecessary Registry entries without causing any harm. Malwarebytes will look after nasties that creep in and the best uninstaller is Revo Uninstaller. There is a free version here: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html got to the bottom right corner of the page for the download.

This program runs fine i use it and never had an issue with it.
There is an old saying it's not the computer it is the user.Witch in most cases it is the user's
But in other cases it could have a hardware error or issue that could all so cause the problems.

In fact yes this is finding alot more then CCleaner and i never have seen that issue.Have you ran any kinda virus or malware program lately.I have never seen ASC6 or 5 or 4 do that. And yes after you run a registry clean with ASC you are suppose to restart the computer so that it can deep defrag the registry.

    Hi

Sadly some programs and registry based ones scan deep into the registry and is that good.... not really, you only want to delve into the registry lightly and removing many items can break other software or apps.

I tend to only advise users to use CCleaners registry cleaner as its light and gets rid of what I would say is safe, safe as in I know the registry very well and there are areas I will not delete unless I know the knock on effect as the registry has these knock on effects.

All in One cleaners and PC speedup tools.... beware

Hi, thanks for the advice. I think i will use the individual program as it is not my computer I am doing it for so I do not want to cause any problems on their conputer. Even if it does take a little bit longer. How about JetBoost, is that anygood for automatically disabling start up programs?

Basically, someone I know mentioned to me last week that there computer was running slow. By the sound of things they have never done any clean up or updates. They don't use their computer for much, just general surfing and email, stuff like that. I told them I would have a look at it. I know a basic amount about computers but don't want to do anything too advanced. The only reason I was thinking of using Advanced Systemcare was that it is an all in one and it would be easier for them to do future clean ups themselves rather than having to use a few different programs. What is the best thing to do?

I'll add to the others saying the same thing - avoid programs that try to do everything, especially if you are dealing with someone who never does computer maintenance.
