geography generator?

Howdy,

I am looking for a program that will enable me to create geography i.e. maps of fictitious countries, islands, et cetera.

This is for a home project so I can't afford Photoshop which is EXPENSIVE..:cry

Does such a beast exists for little or no $$$?
