Backing-up Documents to a Flash Drive

    I am lost (as usual).

    In Windows 7, I'm simply trying to back-up documents on my machine (because it appears my 15-month old machine is dying), and having inserted the flash drive into a USB port nothing happens (usually the machine/system recognized it right away), nor am I finding the device (USB Flash/Thumb Drive) in the "My Computer" area, and now this article ( http://www.ehow.com/how_6827455_backup-onto-flash-drive.html ) is steering me wrong, where it says;

"In Windows 7, open the Control Panel and click "Back up your computer" from the "System and Security" section".

There is NO "Back up your computer" in the "System and Security" section (in fact there is NO "System and Security" section...only a "System" section...??). In any event, I've looked there, as well as in the "Backup & Restore" section - all to no avail.

ANY help is appreciated - thanks in advance,
    g...

I had that problem with a PNY flash drive.
I finally plugged it into the back of comp directly into MOBO.

When you see it, just drag and drop.

Thanks for the reply, however, this is a laptop (netbook) I have that's in in question, so I'm not sure if I can do that (i don't think i can).

    Thanks again,

    Sorry, missed that.
    Have you tried other ports?
Also, are there any yellow marks in Device Mgr on USB port?

Thank you for sticking with me here...though I had tried the same port twice, on your suggestion to try another port (and after peeking into Device Manager which was all good) I gave the first port another, third try, and sure enough, it works!!

    Thanks again ~ Glenn

    Great!!
Now all you have to do is either copy and paste or drag and drop.

BTW - I would use an external HDD instead of a flash drive.
You can have much more space to keep all your info.

You can get a portable external hdd - no outlet needed - and get a 500gb for about $50.00

    Good luck!!:)

I think I made it even easier, by simply right-clicking, selecting "Send to", and selecting "Removable Drive E" ~!~ I'm done!
