The windows setup won't format that size drive. How do I deal with this?

Windows setup should allow to format the drive as NTFS, does it not?

Alternatively you could create a Parted Magic disk, and reformat the drive with it.

The setup allows me to format but then when it is finished, says there is a problem.
On line some one said that xp would only deal with 30 GB but this new drive is 90.
All this is new to me so I don't want to screw it up. The other way might be to clone the old drive but it is on its very last legs and I'm not sure it will work long enough to copy anything but the most precious stuff. It is my sons computer and none of the boys believe in backups until the crash.

This is a complete lie. XP can handle drives much larger than 30GB.

Could you please post the error message as it appears on screen? I know this might be difficult but when we know the specifics of the situation we will be able to help more.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I finally just cloned the drive and all is well. Thanks for replying.
