At home? Comcast. Just the internet portion of my bill is $51.95, free wi-fi router, no idea how many devices since I've never used more than three at once. Streaming is not a problem.

You know...providing the service works. It goes out at least once a week for anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

I also have Comcast - not as the best choice but as the least of the three evils. The DSL provider (Windstream) is much worse and, based on what dozens of my customers have told me, I wouldn't touch Clear with a 30-foot pole.

Comcast's biggest problem is they do not have backup generators on their equipment. Unlike cell towers which usually have generators, a power failure anywhere in the system between my house and Comcast's main switching station in Houston (about 22 miles) kills off service until power is restored.

After Hurricane Ike, my DirecTV dish stayed put and worked fine, even with the shingles ripped off the roof around it. My home's electricity was back on in 36 hours; however it took Comcast almost three weeks to restore my Internet service.

Comcast is my only choice for broadband internet. Too far from the CO for anyone's DSL, no other cable company allowed in the area (Charter comes close, but no cigar). They've given me every reason under the sun over the years as to why the service goes out all the time...I believe none of them. The problem has been there since the day I got cable installed in spring of 2000, when it was AT&T at Home. And then it was ATTbi. And now Comcast.

Optus cable $59.95/month for 500Gb with no overs. :cool
Download speed is about 20Mb/s which is good but upload really sucks at 640kb/s. :(
I have had only one total outage in the last eight years and it was for only three hours when the exchange got flooded but there have been a few times that the speed is only about half.
Three years ago Optus increased the speed from 8Mb/s to 20Mb/s and started offering bigger plans for less money :cool

Can't wait until the NBN rolls out (National Broadband Network) then I might get 100Mb/s but sadly in my area the NBN is not even in the planning stages let alone close to implementation.:( The rollout timetable is current until 2015 and they release plans for three years ahead so from all government indications it looks like I will be lucky to get it by 2020 :cry

Comcast, can't complain about the internet service. I used to have the 'bundle' TV, internet and phone but the phone... I would able to receive or dial ONE call then have to reset the modem. After 5 modems and at least 20 service calls I gave up and cut out the phone and relied my cell for everything. The only other choice where I live is Frontier net, it's DSL and they won't give me a true speed I could expect just "It's broadband and fast." Although FIOS is supposed to be here within the next 6 months and thinking about trying that although what I get in terms of speed is enough for what I do.

Ok Bill what's the downside :confused
There must be a catch........Seems far too good a deal ;)

Hmmmm......... if I move to Belgium, are there plenty of jobs for IT Admins :-D

Thanks for making me very envious Bill :wave

    Surprisingly there is no downside.
I have been with Telenet now for 9 years and only once did i think of changing but in the end the other ISP was only as good as telenet so i stayed with them.

There are plenty of IT jobs here in Belgium because it is the heart of the EU and the headquarters are situated here plus because of the tax incentives a lot of global firms have their HQs in Belgium.

@Bill I just checked out the link to the Telenet plans and even the middle Telenet plan kills my plan on price, speed and download limit .........

Maybe Telenet can tell my ISP (Optus) how it should better run its business roflmao

I sympathize, Joffa. I'm on Optus, too. Only mine is something like 1TB download limit before shaping speeds, (like I ever D/L anything like that, LoL!). Not sure of the speeds, but not too bad, but yeah, Pathetic at $99/month :(. At least it's Tax Deductible in my case :crybaby.

I have never seen my ISP bog me down even if i download a lot at one time.it is all ways constante speed.I could upgrade to 50mb/s if i wanted to but i really dont need it that bad.I think i barely hit my max as is.I have seen other ISP bog people down be cause they use there internet way too much.

@Phantom if you are interested http://www.speedtest.net/ is a reliable speed test that lots of people use ;)

My connection tests 19.6Mb/s down, 300kb/s up and a ping of 5ms. The upload speed is a joke but otherwise it is very reliable :wave

I have Comcast and am happy with them. Of course, I'm not in Texas. And I was working for ATT when they owned it. My area was one of the first to get bigger/better/more fiber optic lines right into the heart of the communities. ATT at the time wanted to break into the home phone business (or rather, get back into it, but I won't get into politics here, but I don't know if Comcast wanted to improve systems as much as ATT did). I pay a reduced rate because my kids school qualifies us for it. Speeds aren't ground breaking by any means but they meet our needs perfectly.

This is typical for me with my kid streaming netflix on the wii and I've got a bunch of tabs open in WaterFox. I think without anything else going Download changes to somewhere around 3.5Mb/s.

I used to have Clear (or Clearwire). Their service was somewhat spotty, an outage a month for an hour or longer and in the evenings everything would be pretty slow, but I held on to them because it was WiMax and the thought of being able to take the service with me on the road seemed good. One day I logged onto the internet and a popup came up saying that I was going to be cut off due to "atypical use" and had 14 days to find a different ISP. I chatted with them 3 or 4 times to no avail, they were cutting me off and that was that. No recourse. After 14 days I had no service, then the following month they still charged my bank account for another month.
My mother-in-law used to work for a contractor that installed cell phone towers and other things related to wireless communications. Clearwire always had an outstanding bill and eventually the contractor quit doing business with them because of due accounts. No way to run a business if you ask me.

I had Qwest before that, then it was bought by Century Link. The service was slow (what I paid for, no complaints about that) but I think I had an outage twice in the years I had it. When we moved houses though the process of getting them to accept that I was indeed the person that I claimed to be got to be ridiculous. That and every time I went to their website to pay you practically had to sign up for a new service then cancel that to get to be able to pay a bill. So I switched to Clear. Also when I first went with Qwest they took 5 days to activate the modem. I had the modem hooked up, it was talking to the net, but when I bought it at the Qwest store in the mall the salesman said that they have to do that for ..... blah blah blah.... whatever politically correct reason. Something to do with making me wait so that people who have to get wired don't feel so bad, because I had to wait as long as they do typically. pfshhhh

Windsteam. And they suck. It's only $20 a month, but I can't stream video and am lucky to get 3mbps. It's also the only game in town. :cry

Rogers throttles the upload speed. Not much competition here and way too expensive compared to other countries. I pay $55.36 per month for internet only.

My ISP, who I shall not shame by naming :-D, is pretty pitiful according to speedtest (who rated it with an F for only getting less than 1 mbps ).

I've had this service almost 8 years and have only a handful of outages. I have no problems with streaming (Hulu or any other station like Fox, CBS, ABC, etc.), websurfing, downloading or uploading.

For example; I could be streaming a channel, playing a game (or 2) on facebook, and have a bunch of tabs open surfing Pinterest, reading the news, being on here, etc., and having no lag at all. I've actually done this many times, and it's the cheapest out of the 3 options I have here. Not too shabby. Take that speedtest :p

I'm through Bell Canada, they are a great company *enormous sarcasm*
My internet is grandfathered uncapped, since there are no uncapped services in my area anymore. $84 per month for 6.5 down and 0.8 up.
Best option for me at the moment, until Primus gets here, which apparently will be soon.

Shaw Cable. Around $175 a month for internet and TV. I think just the internet is $75.
Never seem to have any down time, but I question the data transfer speeds.

The Federal Govt. made a BIG Hoo-Har about "Lauching Australia into the 21st Century" and "Catching up with the rest of the World". Of course, it hasn't happed, (except for hefty price increases rolleyes).
Well, there's a state, and I'm pretty sure, a federal election coming up this year - so bye, bye Premier Barnett and Prime Minister Gillard, (which precisely NOBODY voted for - look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about).
My area, which is just a normal inner suburb has "No cable or fiber and no plans for upgrade at any time in the future". Yeah - good one Telstra, Optus and Govt.:kissmy
We don't even make it to 25% of the average world speeds and the prices are sky-high. Somethings not right, here, i.m.o. And the West gets lowest priority, so it does basically suck.

I use Virgin Media. I get 60Mb/s down and 3Mb/s up. It costs £26/month which translates to roughly $40/month. Outage-wise they are fairly good, my last major outage was 3 hours last November.

Although you seem to be having good luck with it, there are enough people (my customers, friends locally in IT and even one of my wholesalers that used to sell CLEAR service and equipment) who have told me enough that I neither want to spend $40+ a month on it nor sell the service in my shop.

It's like reviews on Newegg or Amazon. Everyone has an opinion. In this case I choose to believe the jury of my peers.
