Need to vent: Coffee place is gone!

My favorite on-the-way-to-work coffee place is under new ownership. There is a big sign by the counter that proudly states the owners are new, but the baristas and the coffee are the same. They lie! :mad

I've been stopping there on my way to work 2-3 times a week since we moved here a few years ago, and I don't recognize a single face. For the first time in over a year I have to actually explain how I want my coffee drink, and they don't even offer breakfast sandwiches anymore! Also, the coffee they serve tastes absolutely horrible. It's disgusting.

Before the switch, when Moxie Java ran the place, it was packed in the mornings. Since they changed over to this local franchise, it's not. There was one other person there this morning. One! And they are slooooooow. I have to be at work by 9:00 AM... before, if I left home by 8:35, I had time to stop for coffee, with time to spare. Now, if I leave by 8:35, I barely make it to work on time.

This particular local franchise sucks beyond words and I hope they go out of business. They ruined my morning coffee place! :boxing

Well, you can knock me down,
    Step in my face,
    Slander my name
    All over the place
    You can burn my house,
    Steal my car,
    Drink my liquor
    From an old fruitjar.
But don't you mess with my morning coffee
You can do anything but lay off of my morning coffee

    I know the pain.
Many, many years ago I would go to a small family place that roasted their own coffee beans and sold them to walk-in customers plus some upmarket coffee shops etc, they also had a few tables and chairs and sold cups of coffee. The atmosphere (aroma and friendliness) was wonderful and everyone knew everyone, at least to smile and nod to.
Then some journalist wrote an article on them and the secret was out.
Lines of people formed outside, more tables were crammed in, more staff employed instead of just family.
I guess they made good business but you could feel the friendly atmosphere dissipating until eventually mamma and pappa were not to be seen, the son and daughter still ran it but were too busy to talk and laugh with the regular customers as they had done before.
The coffee definitely didn't taste as good, I don't know if it was a change in beans, roasting or attitude but I think it was the latter

Sorry to hear your sad news :( A nice cup of coffee first thing in the morning seems to put you in a good frame of mind when facing the tasks for the day ahead.
Previously where I worked there were 6 other coffee shops closer than the one we used to actually go to and get coffee. The other shops were friendly enough but they had horrid coffee and so we were spoiled with delicious fresh coffee for a couple of years and then over one Christmas break.... bang!!! The shop was repainted bright red and vivid purple and new people were running the shop and they decided fresh roasted beans were far too expensive to use and were now using bulk prepackaged beans so the coffee was crap. We were all very sad so we had a crisis meeting in the office and we decided we need to take matters into our own hands. So everyone in the office chipped in $50 and we bought a new automatic coffee machine and the company supplied us with the beans and milk and we were all happy again :-D
Now I mostly work from my home office and I have a Saeco Syntia coffee machine and every month I get 2kgs of fresh roasted coffee delivered by a specialty roaster. Mmmmmmmmmm :cool

Hey Mimsy why not do what we did in my other job and get everyone in the office to chip in a bit towards an automatic coffee machine and see if the boss will help out a bit too. You can tell him it will boost staff morale and make everyone more friendly in the mornings. ;) :cool
You could even exagerate and say everybody will like him more if he helps get the coffee machine LOL LOL

I bet the price is 3 times higher now.

I had a small store right next to my house. The lady sold it after her husband died a few years ago. Then somebody else bought the place and the price for each item was totally way too high. I could not even get a 2 liter pop there. They charged almost 3$ there. I was like.. the hell with.. yeah, then i started going to like dollar general. I can buy a weeks worth of food there for about 40$.

    Exactly! :wine <-- holding coffee

I asked around at work ,since this has happened to half a dozen Moxie Java places in town, and apparently the others are happy with the local franchise that has taken over, so I suspect it's just my particular store that sucks. that annoys me.

But I did find their website, and they have a feedback form for each location, so I have spent the afternoon providing feedback. I feel better now. :)

I commiserate with you Mimsy. Very little bothers me. I am very slow to anger, and quick to forgive. But DO NOT mess with my morning coffee . . . trust me it isn't going to be pretty.

Only coffee place in my neighborhood now is Starbucks, and while my wife loves their stuff, I think their coffee tastes burnt and is way overpriced. I can duplicate their coffee by brewing a pot and leaving it on the burner for 24hrs . . . blech.

I'll take Starbucks over Tim Hortons. I'll take McDonalds coffee over Tims for that matter.

There's a little place here called Swing Street. When I feel like parting with a bit more money, I'll go there. They changed owners a couple of years ago but the coffee stayed the same.

I bet BK coffee tast better lol :-D

I work there part time on weekends it don't taste to bad as long as it is made fresh.

Good luck with that though roflmao mcdonalds is the same way.

Sheetz is not too bad.But most states dont have a sheetz.I think tha PA area is and some around us only have Sheetz gas stations but they make really good food as well.

I quit going to Starbucks when they started getting too big for their britches. Felt more like McDonalds than a coffee house. :fart

Some time back in this area BK turned all their coffee to instant, then advertised the heck out of it as if it were something really special. :puke

My morning coffee place? It's a little coffee pot sitting on the counter. It don't make nothing that sounds like a foreign language, just coffee. No cream, no sugar, just black coffee. And lots of it. :major

No offense, Mimsy, but it blows my mind how many people will spend between three and five bucks for something they could make at home in a few minutes at a fraction of the price.

Living in the South, I'm an iced tea fanatic. I can make a gallon of tea in my sun jar for under fifty cents and it tastes ten times as fresh as the swill fast food places serve.

Yeah, like gman and cabbi, I prefer to make my own. There's only a few brands of coffee that actually taste like the real thing over here. I use Lavaza coffee from Italy, (Espresso F.T.W., i.m.o. ;)).
    http://www.lavazza.com.au/pr_forhome.html
Most of the other brads have had most of the aromatic oils and esters removed via steam extraction to make other products, such as instant coffee, coffee extracts, etc., so we're just left with the crud left behind.
