Good Afternoon. I have a HP A825n Pavilion, Running XP home 2002, SP3 (32 Bit). Having just returned from an emergency appendectomy, I found the PC was blocked with the Moneypac Virus (FBI blocked computer). I have followed the "Read Me First" malware removal procedure and I'm at Step 3 for the XP cleaning procedure. It apears that steps 1 & 2 have resolved the issue as I have rebooted the PC and the PC is running normally.

You are using a version of MGtools that is more than 1 year out of date. You should never be keeping old versions of MGtools. Please download and run the version given in the instructions and attach a new log from MGtools.

Sorry about the MGtools. I had thought that when I downloaded the file it would overwrite the old one. I deleted all the Mgtools folders and files currently on this PC, and re-downloaded. The new zip file is attached. Thank you.

Yes it does overwrite the old file but only if you save it to the same location. And there was no need to delete the MGtools folder as it is updated automatically when the new version is run.

The problem was that the first logs you attached showed that you ran MGtools.exe from the below INCORRECT location and it was an old version.

    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Desktop\Anti_virus Programs\MGtools.exe

MGtools.exe should only be saved directly to the Desktop folder ( not a subfolder ) or it can be saved to the C:\ root folder as C:\MGtools.exe.

The newest log you just attach ( while it is complete and fully updated ) shows you did not follow instructions again. You did not download MGtools.exe. You ran it from your browser as seen by the below process in your logs:

    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\U2BCIPTO\MGtools[1].exe

While this worked, it is not the preferred method and may not always work.

All that said, your logs look pretty good but I want to check to make sure some registry entries have been fixed.

Rerun RogueKiller and run a scan. After it finishes the scan, select the Registry tab and then select any of the below that still exist and then click the Delete button.

    Then immediately reboot your PC.

After reboot, run a new scan with RogueKiller and save a log as in original instructions and attach the new log.

Re-ran the scan and deleted 3 items. The report for 0918, shows the three items I deleted. The next scan is at 0932 after deletion and reboot.

    Looks good now.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
