Weird problem /w combination of hardware & software.

Two laptops with XP Pro and Win 7 Pro. Both access the internet fine via wireless through a cable modem.

An expert set up a wireless network among everything for me. My wireless printer was "in the loop." On the Win 7 machine the printer is described as being on the XP machine. The XP machine works the wireless printer fine and the Win 7 machine DID until the network went down the toilet.

My network ability runs deeply into negative quantities. I can just look at a well networked machine and the network will fail instantly. ----- Was it ESSENTIAL that the Win 7 machine access the wireless printer _through_ the XP machine?-----

Win 7 does internet via its own wireless setup. The Netgear router setup seems to have "room" for settings for the Win 7 machine. Can Win 7 NOT access the wireless printer the same way as the internet instead of through the network and the older printer? The "expert" said you couldn't even network a 64 bit maching with a 32 bit machine. How do you tell an expert he's out of his mind? His 64 was talking to my 32 at that very moment.

I can't remember spit any more (stroke), but I'd like a slight grasp of possibilities before I call in the "experts" again.

 

Is the printer hooked up via ethernet or wireless, or is it usb to the pc.

Sounds almost like it's wireless.

 

Sounds like? Thats not how to fix a problem, finding out the exact situation and setup then attempting to trouble shoot is how i was trained to fix problems, on that note, im sorry i tried to help, good luck. If you wont confirm or deny details of your setup to someone attempting to help you out for free, then your probably not gonna have much luck here.

 

This makes me think it might be hooked up via usb btw.
