"Rearranging" a File Association...?

I'll do that - bear with me. Only possible differences from default would be as a result of something I have installed, but the system is absolutely stable so shouldn't be any issues at all. It also runs Belarc without issues ;)

Glenn, where there are app-related services (like Acronis), just move on the the next one that matches your set.

Will do - and understood (believe it or not!) ;)

I am going to be out of action (asleep and then on-the-road) for the next 24 hours...I will follow-up asap - thanks!

I've attempted to make this post for close to two hours.

I am nearly catatonic over Windows 8 at this point...I simply do not know what more to say/write.

All services have been reset to default, with little/no effort on my part, as I have inadvertently performed a "System Restore" ... apparently now known (at least for 2012/first three months of 2013!?!) as "Refresh".

However, and much to my chagrin, this is not the System Restore that we all knew for the last decade or more. No.

System Restore is still System Restore. Refresh is something new, read all about it HERE.

It might not turn out to be such a bad thing, going back to default. Be interesting to see if your file associations problem has been fixed.

I respect and appreciate that it "might not be such a bad thing", indeed in some ways it is good.

The real problem, for me (and I would imagine many/most "older" customers), is a very, very simple matter of time.

I'm supposing in WIN "9" (or whatever they may name the next gen) they will add "Renew" to Restore, as they've now added Refresh.

Win "10" will be "Relax" (or some such), added to the three others...see where I'm going?

This is all fine and well for a 10, 12 or 18-25 (or even 30-35) year old. However, I am 53 (in a couple weeks)...I simply don't have time to learn about so many "new" bells and whistles, which are very much integrated into the old bells and whistles.

    Have a great day..

...oh yeah..."file associations"...sorry, I'm busy trying to "Recall" (post Refresh) EXACTLY where I might access that info (as with most other info on "my" machine) . . .

I have an "R" word for the obviously-over-caffeinated folks in Seattle:

    "REALLY"???

This is getting a bit like the old Harry Belafonte song 'There's a hole in my bucket'. Re-read your post #1 Glenn ;)

    I don't understand what this song means (in relation to me/this thread/my machine/post #1).

I'm back in original 8 "mode" or "format" or "display/appearance" or whatever it's called..."attempting" to learn (if not embrace) it.

The "Refresh" has "buried" (hidden?) most everything I spent 3 weeks downloading/setting-up/arranging/etc.

How to check my file associations (in 8 mode) at the moment anyway, is lost on me. I can't even find the programs I spent three weeks downloading/installing/setting-up/etc.

I detest Windows 8 (i literally feel SICK from dealing with it), but on my (current) income it will be a YEAR before I can afford anything else - again.

I suppose you meant it's 'getting to be as a dog chasing its tail in circles' (and I agree..this is EXACTLY how I am feeling with Microsoft/Windows/8), and for "dear Henry" (me) to "use my head" (figure-it-out).

But I am telling you, and any devotee of Bill Gates new B.S. - when I exit a website/forum/etc. such as this, and ATTEMPT to return to administering to MY machine - I am almost 100% LOST each and every time...I end-up STARING at whichever screen 8 displays, and staring for 5 + minutes before ATTEMPTING to start moving MY mouse, tapping on MY keys, or (STUPIDLY) "swiping-in" on MY screen.

"8 IS", in my UN-educated opinion, a very bad joke (RIP-OFF)...as some cartoon for the next "SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE " (a la P.T. Barnum?) to come-along, and PLAY with. I honestly believe this is the philosophy of Microsoft:

"Systems", designed BY 17 year-old's, FOR seven year-old's, AND FOR THEIR little brothers and sisters - who are born "EVERY MINUTE".
