Advantage of Internet Explorer v 10 in Windows 7?

Microsoft has made available to download a blocker tool for Win 7 to prevent IE 10 from installing IE 10 automatically in their WU.

I've got no clue as what the difference is between IE 9 and IE 10 other than IE 10 could be used for a touch screen which I don't have.

Anyone knows more about IE 10 as to justify installing it? I suppose that IE 10 for Win 7 will be knocking on our doors pretty soon.

    TIA

Here's the link to download/install the IE 10 Blocker Tool. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36512

IE10 has more security features, is able to run newer web content, and is the first browser in Windows to support auto correction.

It will also be supported for longer than IE9, but most companies have specific authorized browsers due to intranet application compatibility. Thus some people will want to block it without interfering with other Windows updates.

one question! how is this better than Chrome or Firefox?

Chrome quality has been lacking lately.

If you don't include extensions, I would say that IE10 is comparable to either. Of course I am using Windows 8 so I haven't tried the preview.

Thanks guys. I still am not sure whether to install the stable IE10 when it comes along via Windows Update. Hardly use IE9 now since I use Firefox and Palemoon.

I remember on XP when IE 8 came along there seemed to be lots of problems in the beginning. Therefore I used a blocker tool for that IE8 and installed it only when all was ironed out by unblocking it. So that makes me a bit weary to update to IE10 as soon as it comes out for Win 7.

If you normally use Pale Moon (good choice!) and Firefox, then I would recommend waiting as you have suggested. As long as you stay up to date on updates for IE9 you should be fine security-wise.

IE10 is stable and I have been using it for near 6 months in the current form, and have no issues with it, I do also use FX 21.0a1 Nightly (an alpha) and that's much better than Chrome will ever be IMHO.

IE10 adds more security and the browsing experience is better than previous versions, but its not much majorly different outwardly to other IE versions.

Well, WU offered the RTM version of IE10 today which I accepted and am using it now atm.

One thing irks me is that I don't know how to add a FOLDER into the Favorites Bar. Tried it but doesn't work. The folders that I have currently in the Favorites Bar were transferred from Firefox to IE9 with the free Transmute software. Success was only partial. I've got numerous links in Fx's Bookmarks Toolbar which are neatly arranged by folders, favicons and the extension of Roomy Bookmarks Bar. In IE 10 they are all dropdown at the right side and overflowing. :(

Guess I'll keep on using Firefox and Pale Moon. IE10 is somewhat faster than the ones mentioned but lacks in other stuff that I really miss in IE10, like NoSquint and other extensions.

I just got IE10 on my computer (Windows 7 Home)... I guess it downloaded automatically, as I never requested it. I'll give it a shot, anyhow... But, I no longer have a search window at the top right, to the right of the address window. Any idea where it went; how to restore it?

    Thnx

IE10 came down with the March updates so all those using automatic updates now have it. In IE10 you just type your search into the address bar. It will use whichever search engine you have set as default.

I'd recommend holding back (blocking) IE 10 on W7, there are some changes it makes via the requisite kb2670838 that can trigger strange effects on many types of software, from 3rd party browsers through to text editors - and not only on the hardware configurations in the link.

How do I "block" IE10? Don't know if it's related, but I am having trouble with my scanner now... (Epson V700 Photo)...

    Thnx
