Can't remove OtShot

I completed READ & RUN, but still have OtShot in my "Program Files (x86)" file. Also, when I boot up and log-in I'm getting an OtShot pop-up asking if I want to import my Outlook contacts.

My logs are attached, and I've attached two different Malwarebytes logs as I ran a previous scan using Malwarebytes last week before I found this site (I thought the earlier scan log might be useful). Please help.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://start.sweetpacks.com/?src=10...3&barid={28DE8132-8D0F-11E2-B5BF-C96013D93264}

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OtShot] C:\Program Files (x86)\OtShot\otshot.exe -minimize

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run it by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7, or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I've followed your instructions, and I've attached the two logs requested.

I'm not getting the OtShot pop-up anymore that asks me if I want to import Outlook contacts.

I'm also not seeing OtShot in my Program Files (x86) anymore.

On my original message I didn't mention it because I didn't notice it until after I posted on MajorGeeks, but I was getting an Internet Explorer browser hijacker: sweetpacks.com. I see in your instructions that you saw that in my logs, and gave me instructions to remove that too. Good work! Many thanks.

Please let me know if you have further instructions after you review my new logs.

You're welcome. Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    I did all that.

In looking at how you helped me, I think that this is one of the most useful sites I've seen on the web in a while. Yes, it took a few days for my number to come up, but when the service is free, and you keep in mind that the help comes from volunteers, how can anyone expect anymore?

In a related topic, I searched some of your threads to see if I could find some suggestions to speed up my boot time, since it generally was taking about 5 minutes to boot up and has had that problem for 90% of the year and a half I've owned this laptop. I tried two of the suggestions, and now I can boot up and log-in and everything in about 50 seconds.

    Thanks again.:-D

While doing something else I did just find a remnant of OtShot still on this computer. When I go to Start > Control Panel > Notification Area Icons, I'm seeing otshot.exe/OtShot at the bottom of the list.

    Is this a concern?

I've also just noticed when I open up my Chrome browser (which I rarely, if ever use on this computer) that it opens with start.sweetpacks.com as the Home page. Previously I did not have a Home Page for this browser, but to try to over-ride this I then set google.com as my Home Page, but when I restart the browser, it still comes up start.sweetpacks.com

Is this something to worry about? If so, please advise.

Perhaps I should uninstall Chrome, and and then reinstall it?

Meantime, I won't use Chrome until you reply.

Older versions of Chrome could use the below to reset to default settings:

    http://www.googlechrometutorial.com/google-chrome-initial-settings/Google-chrome-reset-default-page-settings.html

But for newer versions, which are more poorly designed IMHO, yes try uninstall/reinstall. There are ways to go into the user data folder for Chrome and delete files which causes a reset, but that is not something many end users are so comfortable in doing. If you wish to give this a try, you could try deleting the below folder with Chrome not running:

    C:\Users\Wayne\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

Then try running Chrome see what happens.
