With Windows XP, you can use Device Manager to search for and install drivers for peripherals.

Right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties, click on the Hardware tab and then on the Device Manager button.

A list of devices will show. Any that are lacking drivers will have a yellow question mark next to them.

Right click on the device and select update driver. You'll then be asked if you want Windows to search for and install the driver. Allow it to do so. You may need to restart the computer after installation.

Once you know the make and model of the NIC, go to it's support site or the computer manufacturer's support site and download the drivers so you have them in the event Windows needs to be re-installed.

What concerns me about this is the fact that the computer is a Toshiba Satellite and neither of the utilities you ran were able to identify the system board/mother board. So, I'm wondering if the board was replaced with a "compatible" board that isn't original to the laptop.

You can try going to the Toshiba support site and entering the serial number of the laptop — it should be on a label on the laptop. See if you can download drivers for the Satellite to the computer you're using to post here on the Forum and burn them to a CD/DVD that you can then use on the Satellite to install any missing drivers.

But, I have a feeling that Toshiba doesn't operate that way and you may have to pay ($40) for CDs that they will ship.
