    Hi all,

I'm here to seek help for my problem after the experts over at Malware verified that it's not caused by an infection.

    ---

My desktop (PC win7) has suddenly displayed the following symptoms:

    1. Notification of IAAnotif.exe crash whenever I startup.
    2. Unable to execute most programs.
    3. Able to use Firefox and Chrome, but unable to download anything. Nothing happens after I clicked on download links (when first attempting the Malware Removal Guide)
    4. IE crashes almost immediately upon execution.
    5. Shockwave Flash plugins crash.
    6. Internet connection seems stable thus far.

    ---

In addition, I noticed that when I shut down, I always have the option to "Install updates and shut down" despite having done this a few times. Also, my graphic card (HD5870) have also been "crashing and recovering" occasionally, but this have already been happening way before I had this IAAnotif.exe crash incident.

Any help greatly appreciated, let me know if I need to provide any more information. Thanks!

I guess start with the obvious...are you sure your graphics driver is up to date?

Tried updating it after the IAAnotif crash, but there was an error during installation. Although I should point out that there wasn't any problem when my drivers are not the latest previously.

In case anyone needs to know, I was on CCC 12.10 when the crash hit, the latest is 13.4, I think.

For IAAnotif.exe , look in startup or msconfig and stop iaantmon.exe and iaanotif.exe from starting up with Windows.

Hi, using msconfig > startup tab, I disabled iaanotif.exe, but was unable to find iaantmon.exe. Instead, under Services I disabled Intel Matrix Storage Event Monitor. However, these actions did not solve the problem. Any ideas?

Hi, thanks for your input. I had asked for help over at Malware forum, and the expert ruled out the cause of viruses. I do appreciate a second opinion though. Here's the thread:

Also, I'm unable to install MalwareBytes, probably due to this existing problem.

Look for Intel Event Monitor and disable that.

Luckily for me, a system restore point was created prior to a series of Window critical updates. Going back more or less fixed the problem, however now it leaves me in a position where i'm reluctant to proceed with the said updates, as it's quite clear my problem was caused by one of these critical updates.

Should I proceed to update again (maybe something went wrong the first time round?), or ignore these updates indefinitely?

I'd do one update, write down exactly what was installed and use the computer for a bit.
Then do another update, following the same procedure.

You can also make a restore point before you do each update. In case there is a problem go back to that restore point rather than loading the image and doing all the updates that worked again.
