    Hi,

I used to know this but it's been a long time since I've had to use this information.

I basically just want agencies, reporting procedures, etc. since I'm sure this information's changed from several years ago.

    Here's the situation:

I'm aware of a couple that one of the partners is being controlling and coercing the other partner to give the original partner passwords to email accounts, Facebook, etc.

The coercer has then given this information to their friends, and the accounts are being used to impersonate the compromised person. However, the compromised person feels like they have no choice to comply with this whole thing.

I'm pretty sure that last time I checked, this was illegal. Is there any steps I can advise this person to take in order to remedy this situation, short of fighting a battle on their own they don't feel they can win?

In addition, does anyone know if you can "clone" an iPhone if you have someone's Apple ID and password? Like, set up two iPhones to use the same Apple ID? I think that's also a possibility.

One possibility would be to contact the Dept. of Justice in your state, either by phone or through the web site.

Go to the web site first to see what info. is there.
You should be able to file a report online through the DOJ web site.

Alright, thanks. Only thing though... multiple states are involved. For instance, the person being compromised is in one state, I'm in another, and people involved in the impersonation, etc. are in a third state. Does that change anything?

The U.S. Department of Justice may be what you're looking for. On the right side of the page is an Action Center. On the left side of today's page are some articles including one regarding identity theft.

Example: Just because a bank robber flees to another state, that doesn't mean that local authorities would no longer be
interested or relinquish investigation to federal authorities because it is now an interstate crime.

I think you are more likely to get an active response from local or state agencies rather than federal.
