I watch netflix via my tivo, or I just watch tivo thru my tivo

I get my show interuppted when an EMERGENY ALERT test happens

I'd swear this also happens when I have my netflix playing through my computer thru my HMDI port, but Im not 100% sure

how do I stop getting these alerts?
I dont want BIG government ****ing up my TV time

    thanks

I don't think you can, but I'm not sure you should be seeing these regularly. May I ask what general area (not specific location just state) you live in so we can do more digging?

Yeah, you shouldn't be seeing those constantly. They are required to test the system weekly, but unless you live in an area where there are constant emergencies (weather, child abduction, etc.), you shouldn't be seeing it all the time. Around here, they tend to do the tests in the middle of the night more often than not.

I suspect it has little to do with your Tivo, however...it's something done by the TV stations as required under federal law.

I figured you could all tell what state I live in by my posting history
    DENIAL

but I pay taxes to missouri

what gripes me is, the tivo is supposed to be like a VCR. so when I watch a recorded show, I should be subject to the whims of live tv
it irks me not so much because the government breaks thru my recording to tell me something I dont care about, but because what else can they do to infringe on my life I just don't know

How differently would you feel if the intrusive government broke into your recorded TV program to tell you there was a tornado heading your way, and you needed to take cover immediately?

The FCC requires EAS (Emergency Activation System) tests by broadcast stations at least once per week.

Some cable TV systems also have EAS systems that cut across all channels. As Sgt. Tibbs noted, it's good to get a few minutes heads up if an EF-5 is heading your way.

Within the next year or two, many people in the US will also see weather warnings popping up as text messages on their cell phones. Not sure of the exact details, but I think it's based on the GPS locater on your phone being in the path of the storm warning.

How terrible that the government warns its citizens of impending disasters. So very intrusive and rude. Don't they know that we want to die in peace?!

I just had another test run today
I just want the options to OPT out,, which Id get with a VCR, yet not with a DVR?
oh yes, the government is constantly looking out for me, oh yes;)
they dont tell me about the trans fats in my food? 0mg=.5mg? must be that new math at work, luckily the label helps me figure it out( Trans fat free**)

the put chemicals into my water, selling the idea that this helps me, so 51 people vote for it and 49 vote against it so I get fluoride in my water, isnt fluoride a toxin?

I cant buy pot or crack otc, but I sure can buy booze and guns and cigarettes...that makes a lotta sense, how many deaths does booze cause a year?

were you trying to point out how awesome the government is by forcing itself unto me?
yeah, that's what I told the girl.....who says no to sex? how odd?

I did not mean to be disrespectful - just making a joke. ;)

I agree that the alerts are annoying.
I often have the television on late at night and when these test alerts occur, they can be quite noisy. :eek
The alert buzzing sound is similar to the fire alarm on the exterior of my building or the dive alarm on a world war II submarine.

This can happen when I'm in another room and I have to run in to hit the mute button or lower the volume so as not to disturb
    my neighbors.

Whereas I do agree, an unexpected alert message can be a minor annoyance, but a tornado, hurricane or earthquake hitting you without warning would 'prolly ruin your day, too.;)

can't see the forest cause you are looking at the trees that's all that's happening

your thinking I want the government involved in my life, I don't.
you also seem to think the only way I can learn its raining outside is because the TV warns me
worse, when I record on my DVR, by the time I watch it, the EMERGENCY no longer exists, so the warning is totally useless to me

but lets say I am watching LIVE tv, which doesnt happen anymore, but I'll pretend, and I'll also pretend I have 2 19yo girlfriends(redhead and brunette) who cook and clean for me
so in this dream, I am watching LIVE tv and its raining outside, the girl not cleaning tells me how rain makes her horny, but I ignore her and I keep watching Jeopardy,....would I take the risk of being blown away by a tornado vs not having the government interfere with my life; yes

Do I think the government sticks its nose in too much into the world, yes.
    Example:
--Do I think school zones are a bunch of bullshit and by colliding kids at a young age sets them up for a life where they thing the government will take care of them/be responsible for them, yes.
so with all the technology we have, you need the government to bust into your TV and tell you, HEY YOU MIGHT GET HIT BY RAIN! Watch out, ALSO LOOK OUT YOUR WINDOW

I see people not taking responsibility for themselves all the time, besides having a BMI of 30, they do moronic shit:
I drive by strip malls a lot, including, but not limited to Sams/walmart. At places like that, people dont look when they walk into the road, they just walk

I was at barnes/noble at a strip mall, as I was going past the shoe carnival/some female store, a lady on her PDA/phone in her face, walked into the street, no looking at all. I was driving a SUV, she ended up walking into my backdoor, she hit me. I laughed and get driving at my abysmally slow speed.

so how many of you guys have had your lives saved because of the TV beeping loudly telling you some weather warning?

I felt people are just expressing themselves. someone people express themselves with articulate questions to convey their questions/opinions. Others, just make a joke, trying to be funny at my expense as they have nothing to offer to add to the content of the conversation.

that's a stretch to assume I would die without the EBS, that I won't look out my window or hear alarms that sound when a tornado lands/is seen.

remember by the law of averages, Half of all people are of below average intelligence.(100 is average, so half the people are below that) plus I dont think the FCC voted to make a EBS interrupt my shows. it was some dude's bright idea.

OK, so let me see if I understand what you're saying. I wouldn't want to be confused by the trees, after all.

You're not complaining about live, current emergency alerts that break into previously recorded programming while you're watching it, you're complaining about emergency alerts that got recorded earlier along with whatever you were recording that are now playing when you watch the recording? Is that right?

Like, you recorded a show from 1pm to 2pm, and during that time frame there was an emergency alert. Then while you were watching the recording at, say, 10pm, you had to see the emergency alert because it got recorded even though it is no longer in effect?

You do realize that the emergency alerts override whatever broadcast you're recording, right? It's not that your DVR chose to record the alert to annoy you later, but rather that it was the only thing available for your DVR to record.

Now, as far as the debate about whether the government should give emergency alerts, let's look at Oklahoma for a second here. Without an emergency alert, far more people would be dead now, because they would have had no warning other than looking out their window and seeing a tornado coming. Trust me on this, if you can see the tornado coming, unless you live in an immense flat area where you can see the tornado from miles away, it is way too late to even stick your head your head between your knees and kiss your butt goodbye.

I understand that you are not interested in the government having anything to do with your life, and that's fine. But then here's the thing...you should stop using the internet. It's regulated by the government. You should sell your computer, because its manufacture is regulated by government. You should stop buying food at stores, because it is regulated by the government. Basically, if you don't want the government to have any control over your life, you need to live somewhere the government isn't. Hint: If it's the US government you have a problem with, then moving outside of the US and renouncing your citizenship would be a start. But I'm fairly confident you're going to be hard-pressed to find a place anywhere on this planet that is not under the control of one government or another. The best you can hope for is to find somewhere in the middle of the wilderness somewhere (deserts, mountains, and rainforests are good choices) where no one else lives. You'll have to be entirely self-sustaining, growing your own food and making your own clothes, and building your own shelter.

I personally have never had my life saved because I was warned of a tornado. But I do know people who have. They came up out of their storm shelters to find nothing but toothpicks where their houses used to stand.

Look at it this way. Would someone's boss like seeing that on an employee's computer, a woman with her breasts almost falling out? Would a parent? Not to mention it is degrading to women. I enjoy such things being a man and all, but I also have respect for rules and female members here.

This isn't the site for such things and if it is a problem, I am sure there are other forums that are cool with it.

I had thought me telling you not to do it was an obvious enough reason you shouldn't do it, but here is a guideline for future threads:

If you feel you have to attach a rating to a thread, post, or attachement, you probably shouldn't create it.

    Thank you.

    OK, go ahead

    Wrong.
I am complaining about all EBS(emergency Broadcast system) alerts.
    because
1- they are the government intervening into my life/treating me like a child. Which is exactly like a parent standing in front of the TV and saying, BLAH BLAH BLAH.
I have no choice but to listen.
    2. How many people still watch LIVE TV?

    3. So they can tell me stuff I likely don't need to know. 99% of the time, the EBS is being "tested", ie BEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPP this is a test
If a legit reason happens, I am going to see it happening(via windows to outside, local news interrupting my show, any of the technology I have on hand/CELLphones/PDAs/computer/etc
4 the EBS isnt going to save my life, if a tornado is spotted, the civil defense sirens (also colloquially referred to as an air raid or tornado sirens) are what warn people, including OK people, who were not saved people they were sitting in front of the TV and the EBS came on and they then realized, OH SHIT

5 The EBS policy is inconsistent with how the government works.
This EBS, which gets "tested" weekly/monthly, is inconsistent with how the government behaves. I am allowed to buy junk food, smoke tobacco, serve in the armed forces and yet the government is allowed to stand in front me and say ITS RAINING< WATCH OUT, and coddle me? I want to opt out of allowing them to have that control

I do realize that, which is what makes the government flexing it's power more annoying.

Nice cherry picking, was your emergency alert the EBS on tv or rather the civil defense siren? Really, you have just really insulted the people of Oklahoma by implying they are so dumb, that they were watching TV and TV had to tell them HAY WATCH OUT before they took cover.

wrong assumption, I want information and I want choices, I see no evidence the EBS system helps with "saving lives".

    Evidently you dont quite understand.

I dont want the government treating me like I'm 0-5years old. I want them to allow me to choose how much I want them in my life. some areas I can't avoid, like on the street/highway, but if I obey the laws, I have no issues with them, same with if I pay taxes and do the laws. buying stuff is my choice, I don't have the government standing next to me at the grocery store controlling my actions and it's worse when they lie to me, as I showed with trans fats, where the government says .5mg=0mg

ok I personally was a bit confused, but I am glad you let me know you meant you personally, *whew*, I personally don't like it when I personally get confused.
Yes, I havent seen any evidence that the EBS system does anything other than annoy people as the EBS is active 99% of the time to "test" it.
why not have the government ban cigarettes and alcohol? Know anyone hurt/killed by a drunk driver?
why not also ban pipes/cigarettes? That'd would save lives also.

I believe Dr Franklin's words apply here
Those who would give up some of their liberty in order to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

    I think I understand.
I would be upset if my employee was reading a site that had images on it likely as I'd also be upset they weren't doing what their job says to do.

Degrading to women? I agree, women should wear loose clothing and show off only their eyes, and then only wear the glasses I show below. A women should never be proud of her intelligence nor her body, she should also keep her opinins to herself, less she say something and degrade herself.
-Those models, cindy crawford, Klum, Starr, Roxx, should all be ashamed, how dare they degrade themselves. Their bodies arent something to be proud of, same with their minds. For if you think a mind is ok and not degrading, then why not a body?
    hmmmm***

You telling me enough not to do it, is enough, as this isnt my fourum, but I was wondering what logic you had, if any, so I could associate that reasons with actions, which is much easier to recall than arbitrary rules without logic.

Here is the glasses women should wear, lest they degrade themselves by showing off their bodies:

LOL, this entire post is a tribute to how little some men understand women. Why does a woman have to show off her body in internet pics to be considered beautiful? With your logic, porn websites truly show the beauty and intelligence of women...

I never said they should not be seen or heard. I said it was not for this forum and is disrespectful to the women here. Unless you want to even things up and have them post pictures of men with their nuts almost hanging out? I bet not.

I dont recall using any adjectives like beautiful.? Did I ?
what then would you call the post above which is based on made up facts?
I also never said a women has to do anything to be considered anything.

The concept I was propagating was that you were saying part of a women, her body, to be used in whatever way she wants is "degrading",. so I took that thought and went with the corollary the female mind(also a part of her) must also be degrading for her to show it off, and since her voice shows off her mind, that must be silenced.

you still, as the post above, are insisting that a woman to show her body off is "disrespectful" to other women? that's also something worth talking about, but I just think its funny, since you didnt understand what I wrote before, I'll rather not waste my time
yes, show off men, I dont have any urge to do that, but if you want to, then by all means, go for it.

FYI, I just barely got my GED so was there a point that? Am I to assume you are calling me stupid? I know a lot of really stupid people with degrees. Many people don't actually use their degrees after graduation and often spend many years paying off their loans.

I am not sure where this started, sometimes it's unintentional but everyone should know better here. If you disagree, do so intelligently or walk away when you feel you hit a wall.

I hope someone like myself, with a GED, was able to get my grammar and spelling proper enough that this post makes sense to all of those stupid and fat people you mentioned. I must admit that your grammar leaves a lot to be desired based on the post I am quoting.
