Why do people seem to like to function outside the realm of common sense? and why do I always get pulled into senseless fights? I think it's because I think I can talk some sense into them but I am always wrong.

Someone on my facebook was bashing a US (they live outside the US) company with what they claim is "truth" without using any logic OR common sense and when I pointed the fact they can't make an honest claim to the truth without actually living here and basing all of their "truth" on second hand media outlets but noooooooooooooo apparently they must be wizards or something and know/see all. I bet they could tell you exactly what a strawberry tasted like even if they never tasted one, because they are that good ;)

I mean how hard is it to apply and use both common sense and logic? are these skills still real or what?

I don't know if that makes any sense because I'm frustrated and ranty... and probably sleep deprived. Sleep and I have been playing this game of catch me if you can and sleep is winning.... but that's a another story for another time. *sigh

I think when people started to be able to put their opinions on life/politics/etc up on Facebook, there should have been a 'dislike' button as well as the like.

I've got a young cousin who spouts on about her naive, misguided politics on facebook all the time. I'd love to tell her that when she is actually able to support herself rather than having her parents doing it at age 25, then she can talk. Next best option....I blocked all her crap. :-D

I feel your pain, dy, but frankly I'd say to just not bother.

I have never been able to understand the obsession with posting everything from opinions to what they had for breakfast on facebook but it is obviously a very popular medium,i have so far been able to resist it although i did sign in for MGs some time ago.

It is like an obsessive compulsive disorder for some who feel they have to post an opinion on every subject under the sun be it right or wrong in it's content.

I know that it is a great medium for keeping in contact with family and friends but it has been hijacked by the mentally challenged who just post gibberish.

Those who serve in the military have to be very careful on the information and photos into their social media accounts. That could be revealing information that could compromise the outcome of their tour of duty.

I know I'm crazy, Phantom, but don't make me feel even more crazy. :-D

I know you guys are right. I should ignore them, and I usually do (it's why I closed my facebook the first time and I might just do it again) but this person usually displays a little bit of common sense, so I imagined some reasonableness... I see I was wrong.

I still don't get why though? I mean why would you purposely display a shocking amount of "inpetness" just to get your (wrong) point across. The sad part is other people where jumping in and siding with the wrongness.. Where did common sense go? did it flee like a passenger off the Titanic or do people just neglect to use it anymore?

Dy, never argue with an idiot. First they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Phantom's hug of comfort is seen as a cruel taunt = EPIC FAIL! :(....roflmao

Yep, ignore and treat them with the contempt they deserve, i.m.o. Works for me - After that, they can ague and yell with themselves for all I care - I've got better things to do.rolleyes

That's why I',m in my own lil' world most of the time. Don't like this one, much.:(

Oh!! I thought that's what it was but then laughing smiley threw me off... I thought you were mocking me or something. :-D

I replied with "you win" because I was sooo done, and they still proceeded to rant on rolleyes

This is a huge part of the reason why I never talk to anyone on facebook, I see I'm gonna have to start doing that again.

I feel like I've been beaten. :cry :-D

Nah!...I was mocking myself, because I didn't want it to be too "mushy" .:-o In hindsight, it just looks stoopid.:p

Its a hard subject to cover in what I'm about to post but the essence is that folk just don't like stuff! be it a country they are in and reaping the benefits from to having a legitimate grievance.

Take your original post a person that is no in the USA griping about the USA, well in reality they are just listening or reading politically skewed propaganda, so they think this is real and the truth, BUT in reality you need to view all of the data to gain a viewpoint.

Personally most who spout political ideals do not know the full story.

Nah, not stooooooooooooooopid.. I appreciate the thought :)

Weekends don't really mean much to me anymore. Everyday is like a weekend :-D

You are 100 percent right and for the most part I ignore it but what riled me up the most was the fact that she got outraged when I told her she had no place to comment on as fact things she has no part of. I told her she could have all the opinions in the world but she could not call them facts. She then insisted that despite the fact I kept repeating it didn't make it true and it was my opinion (oh the irony!). She said it didn't matter that she didn't live here because she "knows" a lot.

That's when I bowed out, I can't argue with that level of either stupidity or stubbornness.

I'll simply point to the old comparison about arguing on the internet and the special olympics and leave it at that.

    Just ignore me Dyamond:p

Once I realise people aren't basing their decisions on logic or being rational I give up.

    And flame the b*******!haha:-D

Honestly though I've never flamed anyone IIRC? I prefer to covertly insult them with something slightly beyond their intelligence and let then in few years when they're putting the dishes away or something it kicks home.

That's how it happens in my head anyway:yum

You can never argue with those that "think" they know it all, sadly a little knowledge on a given subject and coupled with stubborness is like dynamite.

We can all have alot of knowledge on a subject, even if its about another country, it just takes a fair amount of reading multiple viewpoints and documentation on a given subject, but in the end the is the case to bow to local knowledge on a subject.

I find that many just read one source of info and think that is the be all and end all of a topic, sadly we have to digest alot of info to gain a good and balanced perspective on a topic.

In the end, debate for a while and then give up like you did as you cannot argue with a closed mind.
