Hi. When using my computer, my mouse randomly freezes for about a second, and then the speakers make a "klunk-klunk" sound.

This happens irregularly: sometimes multiple times per minute, sometimes going three minutes without happening.

I don't know what is causing this problem. I thought it was malware; so I went to the malware forum and they helped me to remove malware.
Malware WAS indeed removed, and my computer is otherwise working fine now, except that my mouse keeps freezing and causing the speakers to make the "klunk-klunk" sound.

So it might be a hardware problem. But I don't know. Please help me out. :)

USB mouse? That "klunk Klunk" is the usb device/hub being disconnected - ie causing the mouse to 'freeze'. Look for new drivers for the USB, try disconnecting other USB devices, try a new USB port (front vs back), try a new mouse driver, get a new mouse or get a new USB expansion card.. pretty much in that order.

Hi foogoo. You said to look for new drivers for the USB and for my mouse and acquire a new USB expansion card.

However, I must admit that my knowledge of this is very limited and following this advice is beyond my knowledge.

Can anyone who knows more about it than me, tell me how to carry out updating my drivers and expansion cards?

(By the way, I removed my mouse pad; I'm using my mouse over my table-top; and surprisingly, the random freezes and klunk-klunk sounds have greatly diminished. They still occur, but much less frequently. Could it be that the LED on the underside of the mouse just needs to be cleaned??)

You can move it to a different port.. say from the back of the PC to the front..(assuming:) you have front USB ports)
Do you know if it is a USB mouse?
The other fix would be buy a new mouse, cheaper than an expansion card and easier to install...
Instead of picking out what you can't do, focus on what you can do and report back.

Hey, sorry for not responding much, much sooner.

Lol, I think that I need a new mouse. I'll take your advice and buy a new one. :) Hopefully, that resolves the problem.
I did move the mouse to a front USB port, but the problem persisted.

You said that the klunk-klunk sound is the usb device/hub being disconnected.

Could you or someone else explain what this means?

Also, you said, "Look for new drivers for the USB... try a new mouse driver...get a new USB expansion card..."

Could you or anyone else tell me how often, why, and how to get new drivers for USB ports, mouses, and any drivers that should be upgraded?

Can anyone tell me when, why and how I can get a new USB expansion card?

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

Bye the way is this a wireless mouse or is it a mouse that has a wire connected to the usb.

USB devices are hot swappable, they can be disconnected while the PC is on. When a USB device is disconnected you hear the 'klunk, klunk' to alert you that something has been disconnected, USB keys, etc... sometimes when a 'hub' or USB port is underpowered or malfunctioning they will be disconnected.

Most of the time Windows installs the driver, or rare occasions it is a third party manufacture and Microsoft does not make a driver, then you have to go to the Manufacture's website and get a driver.

It is a mouse that has a wire connected to the usb.

Thanks for the info. That klunk-klunk sound that you said happens when a USB device is disconnected, is exactly the same klunk-klunk sound that occurs not only when a USB device is disconnected, but throughout my sessions on the computer, even when nothing is being connected to disconnected to a USB port.
