I recently downloaded a learning program on our XP:confused for my 4 yr. old grandaughter. The big problem is the 5 second delays every 3 seconds. I was told that a downloader tool might help it to be viewed normaly . Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You've already downloaded and installed the program, right? Your problem is with connectivity to a server that the installed software talks to?

IF this is the case, it may be that the server is getting too much traffic than it was designed for. Do you have trouble watching a YouTube video for example? Other sites seem slow, jerky?

    Questions for you:

    Broadband, DSL or dialup modem?
Any idea what up and down speed you're buying? Go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and check a few servers, one very near you and a few big cities as near to you as you can find.

We should start from the beginning...........
    1. What is the program?
    2. And where did you download it from?

    Not sure if the last Quick Reply went out so here is a summary;
    1) AbcMouse.com is the program
    2) Downloaded off the Internet
    3) Using a dialup Modem
    4) The Internet speed test at this site showed us at 0.03 Mbps
Thank You all ( pwillener, brahman & cipher ) for your input. : ) celebrate

This is from ABCMouse.com FAQ page:

Q: What are the system requirements to run ABCmouse.com?
A: ABCmouse.com can be used on any computer that has access to the Internet and has the most current version of Adobe Flash. To get the best experience, you should have a broadband connection to the Internet, such as DSL, cable, or satellite.

With the dial-up connection, it's going to run slowly.

In reply to cipher re: slow XP,etc...
Yes I did have problems watching You Tube videos until a downloader tool was installed . Unfortunately I have not a clue what the tool was and laptop crashed. The only other time I had normal viewing was after the pause was on for a bit then video seemed to catch up with itself and play normaly.

I think mdonah's research tells the tale, on a dialup connection I think 50k is about the max speed you'll get under optimal conditions. (forget 56k no matter what the modem says, 52k is the max possible)

I think a program like |MG| CableNut may help you get the most out of your modem, and if I were you I would go over to the MG Networking forum and ask for some advice from the gurus residing there... ;)

Someone here may be able to suggest a good download tool, I have never used one...
