    Hi All,

My neighbour typed up a Word document that was the minutes for an important meeting. The meeting lasted 3 hours, hence the importance.

The meeting was held at her local primary school so she was not connected to the internet at the time of clicking on the SAVE icon.
In a perfect world, the document would be saved and uploaded to SkyDrive when next connected to the internet.
The document has vanished :confused When she turned her computer on this morning she did notice some sort of error message but did not write it down :crybaby
It said something about a server, apparently. But as we know what someone tells us is the problem, rarely is!

Does anyone know how to recover the document? She is using Windows 8.
I have tried searching the C drive for the file name but nothing.
I have opened SkyDrive and looked in recent documents, not there. I also tried logging on to SkyDrive through www.skydrive.com rather than accessing it through the START menu for Windows 8.

Any suggestions? The research I have done tells me the document has gone.:cry:cry:cry

    Thanks for reading.

It should be in her local Skydrive folder on the computer, under My Documents > Sky Drive >Documents. Even if she used the Metro icon for Skydrive, it should be in the same User folder under the Start Menu.

I use Start8, so it gives me the original XP/Vista/7 menu. If you do Windows key + X, it will bring up a context menu in the desktop, that will allow you to do a Search or bring up file explorer.

Personally I would still save files to a thumb drive or on the local My documents folder, then have Skydrive, Google docs, Owncloud, Box.com, etc. set to automatically sync that folder, which it should be setup to do already.

The file is probably out in her My Documents folder, so she is going to have to look in the "Recent Documents" side of Word and see if it shows up in there, then see if it will open.

    Thank you for replying.
I looked in her My Documents folder both in SkyDrive and in the normal My Documents folder. I also did a search through every file, at least I think I did.

I tried to get her to let me put Start8 on her laptop as I have done for someone else but she wanted to give "this a go". She has also learnt her lesson and will not save to SkyDrive again.
She did try to save another word document in her My Documents folder, not SkyDrive but there was an error when she tried to save, of course she didn't write this down for me either. The problem was I had to delete each folder from the Library and then restore them so now she will save them to that folder instead.

The document wasn't in her Recent Documents either.

You can set it up so that any word documents and the Auto save in a particular folder. Check the following C:\Users\(her username)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\ also.

Thanks again. She will NEVER use Skydrive again & I have made sure she uses Word saving capabilities correctly from now on.

Still can't find the document :cry which I think is just ridiculous. The only other thing I can think of is she has accidentally done something she shouldn't have when trying to save it.

    Thanks again for your time.

Might she have saved the document in a different format than the standard .docx Word document format? Perhaps .rtf or one of the other options that appears for the Save/Save As command?
