No Audio After 'Disabled.Cryptsvc' Virus

After my PC C drive was infected with ‘Disabled.Cryptsvc’ virus/malware and cleaned up with Malwarebytes, I have found that ALL my XP Home SP3 Restore Points have been erased, also I have no audio whatsoever now. Everything else appears to be working as it should. After several attempts to get audio back I still have not succeeded. Realtek AC97 Audio is still installed but in Control Panel/Sounds &Audio Devices I am informed ‘no audio device’. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling audio drivers etc., all to no avail. After the infection I have run full scans with up to date ‘SuperAntispyware’ and ‘Malwarebytes’ programs and all appears as normal now, except audio of course.

I disconnected the original C drive and tried a separate H/D containing a XP Home SP2 installation; tried that and the audio is working fine.

As mentioned some while ago I built my PC about 10 years ago with an Abit NF7 vs 2 Motherboard which has onboard audio. Although it’s old I have kept Hardware and Software updated and the machine has served me very well (so far)!

Has anyone any idea how to cure the absent audio on the original C drive please; I have searched the Forums but cannot find an answer there?

Many thanks for any positive suggestions.

Have you completely gone threw your system scanning for all virus and malware problems.

I would recommend on doing this below. You might have to let the experts on the malware forums let you know that its clean.Be for we continue further with a corrupted hard drive.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Then go to the malware forums.

Sounds like there is still some thing on system.Malwarebytes does not pick up every thing.

It is best for this person to make sure the hard drive is clean be this is started.

Many thanks Goldenskull and mdonah for your helpful suggestions. I have scanned the system with full scans of Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Comodo Internet Security, nothing further dodgy was found, all are free versions by the way.

I had in the meantime gone through Control Panel/Admin Tools/Component Services/Local Services/Windows Audio to find Audio had been Disabled etc.. From the ‘good’ XP install on a separate drive mentioned earlier, I copied Audio Properties etc. info to the dodgy drive. This did restart Audio, but it is extremely distorted, i.e. a massive echo on all sounds. So you are a almost certainly correct; I still have a corrupted hard drive.

I will visit Malware Removal Guide etc.; holidays are looming so there could be some delay.

Again many thanks Goldenskull and mdonah for your replies, I will in due course keep the forum updated on progress.
