I have no idea where to post this, so I'll try here...

When visiting "Today's Photobombs" on Majorgeeks, the attached ad is displayed at the bottom. Clicking on the link takes you to http://ccleaner.apportal.jp/ where something "CCleaner 4.02.4115" is offered. Clicking on the "Download" button, something "ccleaner.exe" (603KB) is attempting to download.

This is definitely NOT CCleaner! I have no idea what it is, but I suspect it's malware.

Is there a way to avoid such misleading, and potentially dangerous, Google ads?

Yes Pat, there are ways to block these things, one problem is that they help pay the bills for the site owners so publicly spelling them out may be frowned upon.

Well I block about 85% ad's on the internet with the Ad blockers on Firefox ad-ons.

And i can link the ad blockers if you want too i found 5 or 6 that does a pretty good job at it.

And yes that link you put up is a fake program.Do not use either get CCleaner from hear or get it from filehippo.com Two sites i trust that don't have malware issues.

Just like with everywhere else on the net...just don't click. ;)

The ads help pay the bills...just like with free software or any other free site. There's nothing to do other than ignore them...or block.

Agreed and the odd random weird ad does crop up from time to time, most are localised so not everyone will see the same ads

Yes you can but it is safer if you know where to get programs that have been scanned to make sure they are safe to use.(MG) is one and Filehippo.com all so scans there files as well be for they are put on to there site and on top of that Filehippo not only has newer versions they all so have older versions as well just in case the programers mess up the program in some way and you can revert back.

Agreed. If we want to have nice things, we have to put up with them.
