So, unless you are shooting down a house, what's the purpose of something like that? :confused

    Elephant gun.

For when elephants break into your home and you don't mind breaking your back to protect it :p

For a measly $25 more you could have solid silver bullet weighing 155grams or 2400 grains and hunt vampires for $65 a shot.:-D

Since the rifle weighs 50lbs I wouldn't be doing much hunting with it, just aim at the end of the garden and wait till a vampire shows up.:major Vampire hunting is still not recognised in the UK so I doubt I'll be owning one soon.

Was researching German Mausers for my boss, and came across this one I had not heard of. An anti tank rifle, made in 1918... Not as big as the one in the OP, but interesting.

I watched a documentary about the Germans almost having a stealth bomber, and a intercontinental stealth bomber right before the end of WWII. They were planning on bombing NYC...

I always feel for the poor guy who has to get within 100 meters of a tank then try and kill it with a rifle:-D

In the early tank rifles they used the reverse bullet which was a round seated backward in the case designed to cause spalling damage inside the tank, the Germans hated them because the rifle often blew up.

Here's my favourite anti tank rifle

Yeah during the second world war shape charges completely took over from projectiles for killing tanks, a projectile weapon could penetrate 0.5-10 inch of armour at around 100meters where as something like the German panzerfaust could go through 6 inches of armor and kill everything behind it.

Small Demo of a shape charge by one of my hero's Sydney Alford, this is a replica of a US bazooka round similar but not as good as the recoiless rifle vs 3inch of armor, sorry it's in German only copy I could find.

I love this vid of the modern TOW missiles with two stage shape charge.

Won't catch me in one of those steel coffins:-D

Cool stuff Rikky. I did not know they blew up above the tank. Always thought they hit the target. Ya' learn something every day. I guess I can go back to Diablo III now. :-D

White knuckle Sunday for you as well:-D

The tow missile does because it's wire guided and fly's straight and level, most of the others such as Russian konkurs or US javelin all have the shape charged aimed forward but they still detonate a couple feet away and that's the beauty of the shaped charged it will fire a thin copper jet about 100 feet at mach 3-6 which can go through anything.

Ha! We were using a modified version of the L6 Wombat in the '70's. After about 6 rounds, the Land Rover had to be re-welded. It wasn't exactly recoilless, LoL!;).

We had the same problem but by using 3 heavy duty shock absorbers from a landrover we managed to make it much more stable.

The other problem with the wombat was that 70% of the charge went out the rear venturi so it was not a weapon for use in built up areas or you got barbecued.

There's a video out there of a fighter in afganistan that doesn't know about the back blast, and tried to fire one sitting in the back of the car. The car catches on fire.

The old laws and AT4's suffered the same problem so to counter in they designed a version to use indoors, it has a water sack at he back of the tube that's vaporised absorbing all the backblast energy.

When I'm playing on ARMA 2 Ace if you use the anti tank weapons indoors you can kill or wound your teamates even deafen them unless you equip your guys with the indoor version, the indoor version with the water sack is about 0.5kg heavier as well which effects your endurance:-D

All these weapons are just top trumps to me, a bunch of stats so I love hearing stories from guys who've actually used them:)
