Computer Randomly Stutters When Running

Discussion in 'Software' started by HumbleServant1611, Jul 29, 2013.

  1. Hello everyone...

So my issue started a month or so ago when my computer started to Stutter/Skip/Glitches when just running nothing. When I play music or movies in any of the players it temporarily Skips like a scratched CD then goes on normally. This happens often and it is really getting on my nerves I've searched through this site and found no thread that has the same issues that I'm experiencing. When I'm online the page freezes and says (Not Responding) for a few seconds then continues normally. My internet connection is fine, it happens when I'm not on the internet as well. I noticed when I move the Cursor and it skips at the same time I'm playing audio or video files. So It's not the players but something with the computer in general.

    Here are my system specs:

    Toshiba Satellite C875D

Processor: AMD E2-1800 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.70 GHz

RAM: 4.00 GB (3.60 GB usable)

    Windows 7 64-bit OS

If you need more information just let me know... Thanks in advance.

    ~Greg~

If you are looking at the Processes in Task Manager, is there anything that consumes very high CPU, or memory, or I/O?

  3. The processes that run constantly are: explorer.exe @34,000K not sure if thats normal memory consumption also ToshibaServiceStation.exe @23,000K and dwm.exe (Desktop Window Manager) @20,000K

When I run firefox it gets up to 300,000K especially with YouTube. One time it got up to 1,000,000K which I've never seen before. The Flash PLayer gets Up to like 70,000-80,000K.

Also I'm not sure if this relates but I've been getting a BSOD which shows the same driver Tcpip.sys which I think it's the Network Card?

Let me know if you need anything else thanks again....

    Just a quick thought:

In Firefox, Tools > Options > Advanced > General is Use hardware acceleration when available checked?

Try changing the setting, restarting Firefox and give it a run, see if the problem subsides...
In my case, I see better performance with that setting UnChecked, your mileage may vary...

I experienced this type of issue and an increase in memory eventually solved the issue (to a point). I also found that I needed to remove a usb device too. I would suggest removing as many usb attachments as you can, blocking as many startup programs as you can and clearing as much memory as you can then see if it helps. If it does then add stuff back little by little until the fault comes back.

alternatively get a better PC. I stopped faffing around and bought a couple of i7 8GB ram laptops and haven't looked back. Honestly getting a better specced machine was like going to computer heaven.

  6. Well I just paid this one off 1200$ and I have 190GB free right now so its not that also no usb devices attached. I just want a faster processor and maybe another 2GB stick of RAM but other then that this computer fits my needs just has a little bit of kinks to work out...

Cipher: So I unchecked the "Use hardware acceleration when available." It definitely doesn't eat as much memory...

From your previous post about audio skipping and the like, getting the additional RAM may be in order. Audio and video pre-buffer to RAM so the more you have, the better.
