As far as I can tell, it's only applicable to version 17; we're now up to 23 - but 17 is still, I think, the current ESR (extended release version), so it would be the one used by many corporate networks.

Makes me feel the headline and sketchy article is somewhat misleading.

Satrow I agree this article is misleading the person who wrote this does not seem how firefox works to begin with.

Firefox has a maintenance software that can keep firefox up to date bye it self.

And if you are using firefox 17 or lower then it is your own fault that is a risk in it self to catch some virus or malware.

Or just switch to Opera and forget about the problems.;)

In all honesty there is nothing really wrong with fire fox when people start to modify there coding in the about:config section then that is what starts messing it up.

Opera is about the same speed as firefox that is very little difference. As a matter of fact i think Opera and some other web browsers codes are based off of fire fox.

I think the only real difference between the other browsers and fire fox is the extra add-on's you can get for more protection.

^^ Unless you know what you're doing, going to about:config in Firefox and changing stuff in there won't mess up anything.

Fx has thousands of extensions and thus cannot be compared to other browsers re being customizable via addons and about:config.

I tried Opera some years ago, tried it out for a few days and removed it, imo cannot be compared to Firefox re above. Furthermore Opera is not open source while Fx is.

Whatever, dudes. I own an I.T. company, have done so for many years. Also been an I.T. Tech. since the the '80's.
Been using Opera since before most people even heard of it. No probs and will continue to recommend to clients and customers, some of whom are Govt. Depts. Not had one complaint.
Like F.F., so use it, then. But I won't recommend it.

    B.T.W:- Please don't get into another browser war, I love/hate F.F. B.S. This is THE LOUNGE. ~Thanks. .:)

Fx I love and run Nightly 25.0a1 with no issues but the major issue with any open source software is that its OPEN, so vunerable to any attack as it just needs a rogue add-on.

If you are running any out of date software then you have a security risk,, but in saying that its not always easy as some software you like may have no updates and has ended its lifetime, those software's just need to be reviewed on ad-hoc basis by the user the any risks.

I would end with no browser is a safe one as its not the browser that causes malware but what the user downloads! :) All browsers these days are pretty much ok.

Wrong!, wrong! and wrong! Thanks for the mine of mis-information, but you might wanna check your facts before trying to correct me.rolleyes

Mate, Opera was around long before F.F., not the other way round. (since 1995, in one form or another.) Also, Opera used to be the fastest, unless things have changed fairly recently. (Not that speed has any relevance to a FF security threat thread anyway rolleyes)

F.F. is based on the Mozilla Browser, as it clearly states, and A.F.A.I.K., has nothing to do with Opera.
