    Greetings, first time postor here.

I have a Dell Precision M60 laptop (XP Pro) that seemed to develop a spontaneous issue with the driver for the video adapter. Video adapter is an Nvidia Quadro FX Go700. The symptoms were screen flashing to black every few seconds, occasional BSOD, general display weirdness. I have uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and it works okay using the Windows ones. I've tried re-installing drivers from the Dell and Nvidia sites. While installing I've disabled my Avast anti-virus, which I read is supposed to be helpful. Every time the screen starts to flash to black even before the install is complete.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

You could try using the nVidia Quadro FX Go 700 driver from 8/16/2005 from this page.

I found out the hard way, though, that Dells are persnickety when it comes to the order in which device drivers are installed. They should be installed in the following order:

    1.) Dell System Software
    2.) Chipset Driver
    3.) PCMCIA and/or Smartcard drivers
4a.) Intel Matrix Storage Manager — if your HDD is SATA
    4b.) Audio driver
    5.) Video driver
6.) Network interface card or ethernet drivers
    7.) Dell quickset
    8.) Wireless network drivers
9.) Bluetooth drivers — if you have the bluetooth card
10.) Mouse, keyboard, touchpad and input device drivers (Alps)
    11.) Modem drivers

There are a couple I left out because they won't pertain to your Precision M60.

FWIW, I've got a Precision M70 running XP Pro as well.

Yes, I've tried that one a couple times, and some of the older versions

Not sure how that applies to my situation. Do I need to un and re-install other drivers in the correct order?

It's for when you re-install Windows.

I have re-installed Windows numerous times and with the exception of the chipset driver had installed other drivers in no particular order although, I always installed the driver for my nVidia Quadro FX Go 1400 second. As stated in the list, it should be installed AFTER chipset, smartcard and audio drivers.

I had always installed the Alps touchpad driver as well, but could never deactivate that PITA Pointing Stick (between the G, H and B keys). Now that the drivers are installed in the correct order as specified by Dell, I've been able to disable it and my cursor doesn't jump to another location when I'm typing and accidentally touch the pointing stick. ;)
