Saw a mouse in my house. Cute little thing, but the Hanta virus is not cute. Gonna glue trap and kill him, unless anyone has more humane ideas. I know its entry point, so am ready to go with 'removing' it.

No kill traps are not going to happen, unless someone nearby has a hungry reptile.

Them dam things grow too big family's very quickly i would recommend killing them.If you got one i am sure you got more around some where.Do not say i did not warned you.

I have spent over 40$ on mouse traps alone last year killing these little buggers. And i don't even bait my traps any more the traps i buy at the end look like cheese and the dumb things go for it.

Might want to start looking for holes in basement and roof pretty much any where you think they are getting in.

And this is a major problem they chew into all most any thing even wires.

Had to get rid of a few rats that made it into my dad's attic after Hurricane Ike.

I like the SNAP-E style traps (less chance of nailing your fingers plus much easier to wash and reuse). I'm posting a link from Amazon; however these are available locally at Walmart, Lowe's, etc.

    http://www.amazon.com/Kness-SNAP-E-...TF8&qid=1375733284&sr=1-6&keywords=mouse+trap

Peanut butter is the best bait. Also, remember to re-bait and put the traps out again until you've gone a few weeks without catching a mouse - especially if you're not sure where they're entering the house yet.

Unlike on The Simpsons, it'll be the mouse (not the cat) that's going down.

In my corner of the world, we have Lyme disease, red meat allergies from Lone Star tick nymphs, enchephalitis from mosqutioes, and even the occasional Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

    My advice?

"Kill all the mice. Kill 'em tonight."

Absolutely. As mice are poor sighted crtitters, and creatures of habit, they like to follow walls. The trap is laid. Tough part was setting it up where a curious lab/doberman would not get his nose in it.

Until last year we used to have a rhodesian ridgeback and whenever we set mouse traps in the laundry near her food bowl we used to put the trap inside a plastic container with a mouse hole cut in one end. It works a treat because the mice see it as cover and they love the peanut butter bait which they can smell from a mile away :-D
Basically we had two plastic boxes..... one with the hole on the left corner and the other on the right corner and you place it so the hole is nearest the wall :-D

    Something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqbNpnTRkhs

Yep sure did subscribe rolleyes ................ not ;)

Sorry for the crappy kid in the video but it was the only thing I could quickly find to illustrate my point. The plastic box idea is great for separating cats and dogs from the mouse traps. We use old plastic ice cream containers and cheap disposable mouse traps and when a little mouse beasty has been caught, my wife simply puts the whole plastic container in the bin without having to touch the trap that is holding the dead mouse. ;)
We use chinese copies of these traps at 2 traps for $1 or a 4 pack for $1.50

@Fred we never had much luck catching mice with the glue traps and we live near a golf course with a lot of bush so every year at the first bit of cold winter weather all the field mice move into the closest houses :(
We also found the best bait is a thin smear of fresh crunchy peanut butter well back so that they have to stand on the trigger to lick it off. If it is a big blob they stand on their hind legs and snatch the blob often avoiding the trap. Clever little beasties but they lose because they just can't resist the peanut butter :yum

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

Did you put them along the walls and corners lol:-D.

And i am telling you if you use them Victory mouse traps the link i put it it will work the mice go for the trap be cause it looks like cheese. And if you do buy them little tip they are extremely touchy be care full they will heart your finger.I had snap down on my thumb and it did not feal good i tell you.But in any sense they are made for that super fast trigger no chance of mickey mouse getting away alive.

I know some people out there are humain about this subject but when it comes to small mice or big *** mice then there is no other way to get rid of them or they will keep coming back.

Hard to use traps. I have never seen a dog that can destroy plastic as fast as Max can, and he loves nuts and peanut butter.

Hehehe well maybe this is not the answer for Max. We were lucky with Ruby because she never opened the plastic container or even played with it so it worked very well ;)

Maybe something like this metal trap will work for you.
    http://www.shopping.com/Eaton-Eaton-Multiple-Catch-Metal-Mouse-Trap-Eaton/a-live-catch-mouse-trap-that-works/79338695/reviews?sb=1

A friend uses these outside in his garden so the possums in his yard and also his dogs and cat don't get harmed by traps. He says they work very well and are quite strong.

If you are somewhere near a Walmart then I found a similar type at Walmart for you
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Victor-M310-Tin-Cat-Live-Catch-Mouse-Trap/21798175?findingMethod=rr
With these traps you still have to kill the mice if you want them dead so my friend gives them a swim in a bucket of water rolleyes

Mice are clever little critters so good luck :cool

Ahh, now that might work. I have to cut there heads off when I get them in a glue trap, a bucket of water and the live trap might work.

Maxwell is a very different dog than I am used to. But he can destroy things in no time.

I just called my friend who has been using these traps for a few years now and he says that over the last three years he has caught more than 100 mice and sometimes two or three at the same time. He has two traps setup..... one in his shed between the BBQ and the beer fridge and the other is out in the garden near the compost heap. He said both traps together average about 40 mice per year........... Just sayin by someone who actually uses them:wave

@Fred when I called my friend I also asked how he drowns them and he said that he submerges the whole trap in the bucket then empties the contents straight onto his compost heap. Very quick and very easy ;)
Another good tip he gave me was that, as well as the peanut butter, he alternates using Tomcat Mouse Attractant Gel so they don't get used to the same bait and avoid the trap. He said it works very well and is cheap. He emailed me a link http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOMCAT-MOUSE-ATTRACTANT-GEL-Improves-Rodent-Baiting-Trapping-28g-/160611086122
Fred with all this info you should be giving rodent swimming lessons in no time LOL

Well then your friend must have luck i guess i have seen friends use that kind and they do not catch a thing.

In all honesty each area is different with mice and rats some are smarter and some are dumber lol:-D.

I have tried over 20 or so traps around my place and all others did not work. They only one i found that worked for me is that victory trap.

I even tried them ones that spin close and they did nothing as well.

Someone recommended digging a hole at the corner of the foundation and filling a bucket with a little water. Mouse/Rat falls in, gets tired and drowns. If you have a cat, it's self-cleaning...

Of course, my father amuses himself by shooting them with a pellet gun, so...

Make sure you get one that fits though.Oh and best idea is to probably replace your dryer hose if misses where getting in there it could be all ripped to shreds on the inside a fire hazard.Might want too open the back plate of the dryer as well to check all of your wires on the dryer on the in side.Take like a Shop vacuum and clean out that bottom part of dryer. An make sure the dryer is unplugged be for opening back plate.

Dryers do cause fires if not maintained right.

Cats are lazy when they get older and just lay there half the time i had two and the only one that got any thing was the female and she was 14 years old lol:-D male cat was a mink with no tale and did nothing but eat and sleep.:-DDid not even no what a mouse was.

If any body does this it is a very dumb idea.Mainly be cause of your foundation can start to leak water into the basement and cause more moisture issues then what you all ready have.

And most of the time when people do some thing like this these leaks can all most be imposable to fix once done.

Just get regular mouse traps. And do not resort to hill billy ideas sorry for that just check the traps like once every other day.

That depends on the cat. I have two, and the female refuses to hunt. She's nearly 10 years old, and is at the stage in her life where she very much remembers that the reason she has chosen to live with humans is because she no longer has to hunt her food now. She refuses to hunt just on principle, though she will toy with intruders if given the chance and if it amuses her.

The male isn't even three yet, and loves showing off. He will hunt anything that is smaller than him, and show off his prowess with enthusiasm and pride. Meaning, he brings live mice into the house and sets them loose right in front of us.

Thank god we have a dog.

Sorry, I forgot that most people live in houses with foundations vulnerable to that kind of problem.

I'm sure this is too late to be of any help to you, but we grow container tomatoes, cantaloupes, etc. on our deck and had a big problem with rats. We tried Rat Zappers, but those (4 of them...idiocy-tried them over and over) only lasted a year at most each. Now we use the Rodent Terminator. We live in WA where we get rain 10 of 12 months and it is still going strong 2nd year. We use Feta cheese, cantaloupe - basically anything cheesy or fruity smelling. Seeds and peanut butter don't seem to entice anything. Put it where they come in or out and you'll get them. Might take them a couple days to "trust" it. Just don't handle it much - just enough to fill and set it and leave it alone. Ours has zapped both mice and (big!!!) rats dead. Clean. Tidy. Done. No bits or pieces to deal with. Just dump them into a zip lock and into the trash. No gore, no suffering. Just BLINK! Lights out.:wave
