There are a number of programs that will enable you to remotely monitor your kid's internet usage. None of them are free — they run from $30 to $100. You can go to this page and compare them.

I have a old Navy Buddy that sells them. Mostly used for monitoring use, by companies that want to make a better product, see how users use computers, to know what programs they are using, what they are not. Not so much for security purposes, but to get an idea of how to make the company users better at their jobs.

Personally this is a very touchy subject on here, and it will be hard to find anyone to talk to you about using it for something that crosses the line in trust. Especially with family members.

Well said brownizs! The best way to monitor the boys internet usage is to insist hat he uses his computer in the company of the family NOT in his bedroom.

Actually when my kids where younger (13 for the oldest, 9 for the youngest), I would use Windows parental controls, along with looking over their shoulder every now and then to see what they were doing, due to the computer was in the dining room, at that time.

Later on, when we got a second desktop from my in-laws, I put that one in my son's room, and used Windows 7 Parental Control on it, along with Team Viewer. I still have Team Viewer on his, so at any time I can see what he is doing, if I really want to know (he gets a pop-up that I am logging in).

My kids knew that the parents were in charge, they had to follow our rules for use on the computer, and had limited accounts, and that I use only Pro version of Windows, so that I can tighten the policies on the machines, which works out great for when the parent wants to limit use, or monitor what the user is doing.

Some parents tend to forget that the Internet is a dangerous ground, and they just choose to ignore what their kids are doing. But using a Keylogger is the wrong way to do it, unless you are using for scientific reasons, or the user knows that they are being watched by hardware or software on the computer for monitoring purposes.

Never ever throw in something that you think you are in the right, then find out later on you actually were in the wrong for doing, without looking into the facts and letting users know what you are doing.

May want to go back and re-read what the OP posted. They were not wanting to know how to detect if there is one, they were wanting to know how to monitor "kids" use.

First Red Flag, what the word "Keylogger". Second was that the OP has only made two posts, with this one being the second.

Really if you want to know about this stuff, you would not go out announcing it to the world that you are looking for it. As for the company a old shipmate of mine owns, http://keyllama.com/ and http://keykatcher.com/ Both are the same sites, just different names. KEYKatcher Pro is the only one that no one would notice it, due to it is not an external device, but a software product.

I am not promoting his product, just using it as an example for the OP as to what the two types are, and as stated before, you hit some areas that can really cause issues, especially if you are spying on family members, without telling them first hand.

brownizs, I quoted exactly what the OP said in his first post. He asked two questions and made one statement. I answered his first question, not the 2nd question about a specific program or the statement about wanting to put some keylogger on someone's computer.
I refuse to provide help with installing monitoring devices on a computer used by other people without their knowledge.

No, you only looked at the first part, never read the whole post, as to what the OP was inquiring about. As for this post which I quoted, no one on here is going to help people install keylogging software on anyone's computer, due to it can get you in a world of trouble, if it is used for illicit reasons.

and in my post above I said
That's why I did not answer anything beyond the first question he posted. I read the entire post; it doesn't mean I have to provide help for everything posted.
I chose to answer for anyone interested and reading this thread how one can determine if there is a keylogger program installed on a computer.

The OP's an SEO spammer for the software he so subtly plugged there.

    On another forum he claimed:
Except the bold part was the same product name given here.

No, you did not answer anything. You just assumed something then read the whole post, of what the OP asked about.

Besides, it was nothing more than a Worm that hit and ran, which is why really those of us that do not take the bait, do not play their games, but turn the table.

So to just clarify to you plodr, the OP asked about using a Keylogger to spy on their "kids", not as you interpreted, which was how do you find out if you have a keylogger on your computer.

That is what I figured from the beginning, so that is why I played the game. As for posting my buddy's company info and the product they manufacture, it was not a plug for him, just an example as to the products out there, and that it also showed the two different versions of what a Keylogger looks like, in case someone comes across this later, and is curious what the difference is between a hardware & software keylooger, and how to notice what a hardware version looks like.

I still like the old Urban Myth that went around, that someone posted on various forums, that Dell and IBM I do believe, was preinstalling keyloggers in their laptops. All it was, was the old school keyboard DIN adapter to PS-2 interface, or something like that, and a lot of people fell for that Catfish.

Instead of playing a game, you should have reported the post if you thought it was spam.

If Tim does not catch it, it is more fun to play along with the poster, to see if they come back, until they lock the thread.

What you obviously don't seem to understand is this - spammers get paid per result, spam only has to be online ~4-5 minutes before the major search engines pick it up. Once the engines have it stored, it'll show in results for years to come - payment validated for the spammer.

The software alluded to by this spammer is related to RegNow, a very untrustworthy site/software maker; by dint of not reporting this, you have put more people at risk of getting stung.

A big thanks to you from all Internet users :major

If you wanna play go the Lounge and start there.

The above quotes are unbecoming for any self-respecting MG member and reflects badly on MG itself.

A couple of points here which is why I didn't delete the entire thread as this person is posting this spam on numerous forums:

    First and foremost:

That is Not how this forum works. You've been around long enough that you should know that. The last thing you should be doing is bring attention to a spammer or questionable post by replying to it.

    Report it next time.

Second....and this has been said before. Keyloggers are not illegal and posters coming on here asking for them should not be treated like they are doing such...unless they have stated otherwise. Placing a keylogger on your kids' computer is not illegal. You may not like it, but that is fact. If you don't feel comfortable answering the question, just stay out of the thread. If they are, in fact, doing something illegal, report the thread.

Major Geeks carries many Keyloggers. Just go under the Covert Ops category.
