I am trying to install Family Lawyer for Windows NT on my E-Machine desktop computer running Win7. After start up of installation process I receive the following message:
GLBSSTUB caused a General Protection Fault in module GLC0003.tmp at 0003:24B6.

    Program then closes.

I can install and run this program on a Dell Laptop running WIN7. Can anyone tell me how to get around incompatability with this program on my E-Machine desktop?

Are you right clicking the installer and selecting "Run as Administrator"?

I, unfortunately, am not familiar with the EULA for Family Lawyer but, it may be possible that it can only be installed on one computer (the one you purchased the software license for/with) — the Dell.. You'd need to purchase another license for the eMachines.

Another possibility (if the Family Lawyer was freeware) is that the installer may have become corrupted and you'd need to download another installer.

There appears to be various versions of software that purport to be "Family Lawyer", can you be more specific as to which version it is?

For example, it could be: http://www.broderbund.com/p-123-family-lawyer.aspx However, this appears only to be compatible with "Windows® XP SP3, Windows Vista® SP2, Windows® 7" and not with "Windows NT".

However, the version of the software you state is "Family Lawyer for Windows NT", which would need to be installed as a system administrator and compatibility mode (e.g. "Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)") under Windows 7. To do this, right-click on the installer file and select properties then under the compatibility tab select the appropriate options for the software as stated on its packaging.

If this installs OK, then you may need to run the application using the same compatibility mode. You may need to remove the previous failed installed debris for a successful install.

Also, is the version of Windows 7 (32-bit/64-bit, Home/Business, etc.) for your E-Machine the same as that for your Dell Laptop?

One possible cause for GLBSSTUB General Protection Fault is that there is a version of GLBSSTUB on the E-Machine that is not compatible with the product. This suggests that the temporary files created by the installer are possibly superceded by the same file installed by other software elsewhere on your E-Machine that is not present on your Dell Laptop. You could try cleaning out your temporary file folders, especially those that contain GLBSSTUB.
