    Hi all...

Just bought a USB2.0 networking server.. it is supposed to let me put an extenal drive onto my home network.... I have plugged everything in... The lights are on...... My router has assigned it an IP and its internal web browser utility says everything is OK..... NOW for the difficult bit..! ! The CD rom that came with it has a driver program caled RALLY SETUP (32 bit xp + Vista ).exe. I need to install this on my laptop and my desktop so they can then connect to the network drive....... This program uses install shield wizard which does a few things and then gives me an error 1628 failed to complete installation I have searched internet all day and cannot find any other software or version of this utility to download . . . . . . .Can anybody help ..!! .. :cry

Ok, does this device use standard protocols? As in: you can map a drive without adding software? like going to explorer or run and typing:
\\192.168.1.20 (or whtever the devices's IP is) and you get an explorer window with the shares?
Did you do the config with the web interface (if needed)?

I had a multimedia drive case that has ethernet, but uses some other protocol NDAS that you have to buy a license for - its a bummer, I know.

Thanks for response.. the device has an IP address on the router but so far any attempt to connect without the Rally software that handles the connection just gets me to the screen i included the pdf image of.... To be honest my home network is a bit of an unknown .... a relative set it up so that the pc and laptop can transfer files and share the laser printer that is hooked onto the network,,,,, nothing is actually set up as a server.. when we need to transfer files we go into My Computer on Desktop PC and select map network drive... the relative has done something so we can see the laptop and connect with the laptop username and password...... transfer is a bit one way and is really controlled from the dektop... I don't know if this method would work to connect the external drive...... The USB server is a bit generic and the only info online is access to user manual ........ the sales blurb was

I don't think you're going to hear from Steve2009. The original post was from over 3 years ago (3/17/2010) and he hasn't posted anything since.

But perhaps someone else will read this thread and have some suggestions for you.
