i need to get a new battery (other thread) but where is the information hidden abt what model i have at present? dev mgr just says "MS ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and "MS Composite Battery" (do i have TWO?!).

for that matter, where is the model of the laptop itself hidden?! this was so easy on older PCs, but on this one (win 7) all i get is "HP 2000 Notebook". i happen to know from a STICKER that it's a "2190x" but it bugs me that i can't FIND this anywhere.

battery is the priority, tho. i'm only looking for PC model so i can google "battery used". ;)

I could only find something at the HP Store itself under "2190" notebook — a 12-cell battery for $150. But, perhaps you could find a better deal if, in fact, the notebook model on that page is your notebook.

@mdonah: i guess that's my model, i dunno. i mean, the pic is tiny and the name is "close", not exact. mine says (only on a STICKER!...can't believe there's NOTHING on the case anywhere) "HP 2000-2190x Notebook PC". that page says "HP Pavilion dv6-2190us Entertainment Notebook PC".

close enuf? i dunno. fact that i can't even find "pavilion" on mine anywhere leaves me skeptical.

i suspect the entire "2000 series" uses the same battery, but who knows? plus, they don't even give a NAME to it! that page just calls it an "HP 12-cell Multi-charge Extended". that hardly seems unique enough to distinguish it from similar looking/sounding products found elsewhere.

Is there a model number on the battery itself?

Does that (or any) label on the laptop have "dv2xxx" on it? That would be the model number of your computer.

There was a recent post concerning trying to install XP on a Vista HP 9700 laptop and we couldn't advise the person until he posted that "dv" model number.

Yes there are two batteries. There is a Cmos battery for the bios on the motherboard, and then there is the main battery.

You can go to http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/g3-index.aspx and look to see if they have a cheaper OEM battery for the unit, or walk into your local Batteries Plus, they can help you out. Even HP Parts site http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Default.aspx?mscssid=4AA300AC8A5E47CBBB2FDB5A306697DA you can order the battery.

So you are stating that the label on the bottom of the unit is missing, no model or part# info can be seen on it at all. If you get the serial# from the bios, HP/Compaq can help you with the model# info.
