    Hello,
I was hoping that someone could help me with a browser issue.
I was experiencing a browser redirect issue several weeks ago. The problem was linked to FbDownloader and I thought that everything was OK having followed the instructions for Browser hijack/redirect issues.
In the last week or so I have been experiencing major delays when trying to open any browser following startup. I have tried with IE, Chrome and Firefox and they all suffer with the same problem. Once the browser is open, it can be closed and will then re-open relatively quickly.
I have run scans, attempted system restore, uninstalled and reinstalled browsers etc but problem persists. I am now concerned that it may be malware related.
I was following advice on another post about using the registry cleaner facility of CCleaner. I had approximately 800 things picked up by the registry cleaner.
I have followed the instructions in the Malware removal guides and have attached the relevant logs.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Not advice we would give in this forum. In fact we even state NOT to clean the registry in the READ & RUN ME. More frequently than not, this causes more problems than it fixes and most of what they declare as problems are normal.

You do not appear to be having malware problems because your logs are clean.

Some of what you described is quite normal. Firefox and Chrome are very slow to open the first time after each reboot on every PC I run them on. The second time, they open faster. IE is normally faster but can be dependent on how many addons/toolbars....etc you have allowed to be added to IE.

    Thanks for the reply.

I wasn't trying to imply that I had been given incorrect advice about the registry cleaner but I did read this whilst looking at another post. I had subsequently read the advice in the READ & RUN ME guide and was a bit confused. I haven't cleaned the registry completely. I did about 100 and I think there was about 800 entries remaining.

I appreciate your help and I understand what you are saying about the browser load times. It is just that this has only started happening very recently. Prior to that, if I selected any browser after startup it would load pretty quickly. About the same speed as that experienced on any subsequent selection of a browser, if that makes sense.

I just wanted to rule out this being linked to any malware infection.

    Thanks again for your help.

    You're welcome.
Could be due to a recent update to software on your PC or an update to the browsers or a recently added addon or an update to an addon.....etc. There are no signs of problems. However you can due the below which may pickup a few additional left overs hiding in the registry.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Chaslang,

Thanks again for your help. I have attached the JRT log as requested but I don't think it shows anything.

Since my last post I have cleared all the other tools from my PC and have also changed ny anti virus software to see if there is any difference. I am now using MSE as opposed to Avast.

I am still using Superantispyware as an after the fact scanner. Do you think this and MSE is sufficient or do you think I should also run something like SpyWare Blaster as well?

Apologies if I have done things that I shouldn't but as you said my logs were clean, I thought it would be OK to remove all the tools previously used.

    You're welcome.
    That's correct.

MSE is okay not great but if you have good surfing habits, it should be fine. Did it help changing to it versus Avast?

Would have been better to wait for our final instructions which would have automatically cleaned up and restored various settings. What did you do with the C:\MGtools folder?

Thanks for getting back to me.

The short answer is no. I didn't experience any significant change. Do you suggest that I go back to Avast?

Apologies again. With respect to the MGtools folder, I read somewhere on the forum (can't remember exactly where) about running a certain clean up file from the MGtools folder but this didn't appear to work for me so I manually deleted the whole folder. I guess that this was wrong

    You're welcome.
It would likely be a bit better than MSE so yes.

Yes the process is to run C:\MGtools\MGclean.bat but you must use Run As Administrator and protection sw should be disabled to make sure it does not get in the way.
