    Hello
To change the boot order once to boot from a cd to recover an image I used to use the old BIOS and just tap F!@ until the right cd/dvd came up.

With the new UEFI how do you change the boot order once to boot from the rescue cd?
    Thank you

    Peter

In BIOS you have to change from UEFI to Legacy.

If it is a Windows 8 machine, safe boot must be disabled. Safe boot doesn't apply to just hard drives.

UEFI is just an evolution of BIOS. We haven't been using BIOS in machines for the last few years.

    Hello
If you are going to recover an image, you change UFEI to legacy. How is that done and does it have to be reversed?
    Thank you

It's a setting in BIOS but the precise location will vary from BIOS to BIOS. Look for the tab that deals with boot order. Yes, you do have to reverse it afterwards.

    >>Thanks B. I am getting a Win 8 machine but do not have it now.
So you get into the UEFI and enable legacy.
What is next in trying to set boot order so you can recover an image.

I will make note that one must reverse the steps.

You may find that the preset boot order already has the DVD drive ahead of the hard drive, in which case it will boot to the DVD automatically. If not you can either change the boot order permanently or, as I always do, use F8 at boot to choose a boot device for this boot only. (Most boxes use F8 but maybe not all).

Note that you will not be able to restore Acronis images created on an MBR disk system to a new GPT disk system, or rather if you do you will destroy it. I'm sure you are not planning on doing that though.

I usually use Macrium to image my system then recover that image if trouble strikes via my external drive.

Is this new UEFI a way of saying only skilled can do this(change boot order) and all others use "refresh"?

I will remember the F8 but if it does not work I guess I am stuck as far as imaging goes.

I know you have to enable 'launch csm" and disable "secure boot control".

But how you do this to change boot order to boot from the recue disc is what I do not know and that is a lot.

Windows went from a Model T to a Maserati over night.

It will still be possible on a UEFI system to use boot disks such as your Easeus one but it will require temporary change to the BIOS/UEFI setup first, disabling Secure Boot and setting it to boot in Legacy, i.e. old BIOS style mode. I'm sure once you have your new system it will quickly be resolved exactly how.

The move to UEFI and GPT disks is the first real change in system architecture since Win 95 days and does carry some real advantages. As ever though there will be a learning curve.

I just read that apples and oranges may be being confused.
One topic has to do with changing boot order, and the other with image recovery.
With image recovery I saw pictures where there is a place in advanced on a Win 8 machine with UEFI where you can choose to recover an image.
As I do not have a UEFI machine I cannot follow through.

Both Win 7 and Win 8 have a built-in backup (imaging) system. It is those images you are reading about, not images from third party apps such as Easeus.

I really goofed. I tried to make a Bartpe disc and now my pc wont work.
I reinstalled Win 8 but the mouse won't work. I guess the registry is larger than Windows and perhaps the dvds I made when I got the pc might work. I have been using the ease of use keyboard as I cannot type.
    Is the machine no good?
