I did a clean install of Real Player. Then I clicked the search media so I could get my music back on the player. When it finished I noticed it said pictures. I looked and saw that all my pictures were now on Real Player. Foolishly I did not back up. When you delete songs from Real Player it has a box you check if you want to delete from the HD not just RP. I assumed the pictures were the same.
I deleted all 520 pictures. I later went to my pictures they were all gone.
Being I had used CC cleaner and a few other programs my trash bin was empty.
I went to the net and searched for a way to try to get the pictures back. I could not get them back from the trash bin. I went to my computer, clicked on C drive and looked for a my pictures folder there- none.
I am wondering is there any way to find my pictures, a system restore will not return them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I am totally bummed! Thank you for any help in advance! :cry

From your statement that you deleted a bunch of photos, that would be why the picture is gone, not because you installed Realplayer. Now since you have been using the computer for a while, the sectors that the picture was in, have most likely been written over.

Re: Real Player Installed All Pictures, deleted from Real Player -Gone from PC, Help

It was from Real Player! Somehow Real Player collected not only all the media on my computer , but all the pictures! I deleted the pictures from within Real Player!
When Real Player collects all your songs , they do not disappear form WMP, Itunes, folder etc.. they are still there. If you want to delete a song from Real Player it asks, do you want to delete from HD check here, if not, it just deletes from Real Player I assumed real player did the same thing with pictures!

I am trying to find out if there is a program that can find the deleted pictures from my HD. I found 4,000 files that can be returned to the computer , I have no idea which ones are my pictures.
I am a senior , not a total newbie but this is way above my pay grade.
Is there a program that can help you find your pictures.
My fault for not backing up. This happened because of Real Player taking my pictures not just my music into it's library.

Greetings, mladynicole, and welcome to Majorgeeks.

You can browse the MajorGeeks Data Recovery section and try a couple of the available programs (I've read that Puran, Recova and TestDisc/PhotoRec are all good freebies) but as brownizs pointed out the possibility exists that the deleted data has been overwritten.

If these files are extremely valuable then you might consider contacting a dedicated file recovery lab such as DriveSavers or Ontrack - both offer free estimates for their services.

I have used Recuva many times with varying degrees of success ranging from I guess 30%-100% file restoration. The deep scan is the one to run, and it takes many hours. Also, since you deleted them using RealPlayer, use the "I'm not sure" options when asked where the files were deleted from. I doubt they were ever in the recycle bin.

Recuva has REALLY saved my bacon a couple of times...

Re: Real Player Installed All Pictures, deleted from Real Player -Gone from PC, Help

That would be that you allowed Real Player to take over rights of any media on your computer, by just clicking on Yes, or Okay.

Lesson learned, never start deleting stuff in a program like Real Player, and lesson two, never let it take full possession of any and all media on your computer.

Really I doubt at this time that you are going to be able to recover everything, especially if you used CCleaner afterwards. Also instead of keeping stuff on the main drive, I would invest in a USB drive, something like the Toshiba Canvio 1TB, or a NAS (Network Attached Storage), that you can place on your network. I use a Lenovo ix2-4 and can set it up to move photos if I wish, into Flickr or Facebook, out of certain folders.

I do also keep a duplicate of important files on a family owned Owncloud storage that our family only has access to, that each of us have 1TB of offline storage also on that server.

I will try that. And actually they were in the recycle bin..:( as soon as I deleted them from real player I cleaned the bin and it said do you want to delete these 500 and something items and I said yes! oops! I did not check my pictures until later that night when I went to post one on FB! I was in shock to see they were all gone!
Thanks for your suggestions I really appreciate it!

Re: Real Player Installed All Pictures, deleted from Real Player -Gone from PC, Help

    1. I have a USB drive I Terabyte. I just did not use it the last 2 months. My daughter and her two boys 6 and 8 had moved in with me in my one bedroom apartment until they found a new apartment. Her husband is deployed! So, they were all sleeping in the living room and I moved everything to different closets and forgot about my backing up.

I don't usually give total control to a program. I made a mistake... I am human... I am paying a dear price for it!

    AltBo and Caliban
Again, thank you for your help! Wow , what a job. It found thousands of old pictures, gifs etc.... I had to go though all of them. However, I was able to retrieve about 250 out of the 500 pictures and some I had in my FB album. I have uploaded everything to Photobucket until I find my external HD. I am so grateful for your help!!!

    Good afternoon.

Glad you were able to salvage at least some of your data - you got lucky! ;)

Good luck and thanks for the feedback.

Thank you! I got very lucky!
Thanks again to both of you for leading me to the program it worked great! I even found pictures I had deleted 7 months ago! I have a huge HD so I think I got lucky! I only lost 15 important pictures! The others were just pictures of places and things I enjoy, Aurora Borealis, Nasa Photos and my angel photo collection. The 15 were family pictures I am hoping my daughter has copies of.

Did you use the Recuva program or one of the others? - just for my info.

I used the Recuva program and it was amazing what it found. I followed your directions and let it check the entire computer. Many pictures were things I had looked at over the months, the weather, arrows , bars, moons, websites, etc.

I had to go threw all 5,675 "pictures" I checked 500 to recover, and it was able to recover around 250 of them.

Suggestion for other's who use the program. Try to have a memory stick or external HD. The program stated you will have more success if you do not try to recover to original site. I had to send them back to C Drive, I do not know how to partition my HD and still have not found my external HD. I might have recovered more if I had sent the pictures to another source. ( At least that is what the programs instructions stated.
    I am very grateful.
    Have a good day!
