Upgrading from XP to Windows 7

Stupid question: Can I get away with just upgrading from XP to Win7 without a reformat? I'm really crushed for time. I've got all my files backed up to an external hard drive and can reinstall other software, I just don't have time to reformat and install a new OS.

Like I said, stupid question. I'm just hoping I can get away with it.

The answer is...maybe.

It depends on the drivers and application compatibility. You will be moving to a new driver model so old drivers may be a real issue.
I don't think anyone can really answer with 100% certainty that it will be safe.

Isn't there an upgrade report that warns you of issues? What does it say?

 

It isn't possible to run an XP to 7 upgrade. 7 requires a clean install.
