Windows 8 desktop not connecting to INTERNET

    My daughter's computer is no longer able to connect to the Internet. She has been able to connect on this computer until just the other day.

    It will connect to the router just fine and all the other computers on this network connect to the Internet ... in fact, I am using a computer connected to this WiFi to post this.

    I have tried flushing the DNS and looked for any "simple" way to fix this problem. It has not helped.

    I went to the "Start Here" thread for removing viruses and started the steps ... at least I tried. I had to d/l them to a USB drive on another computer since the one that needs fixing will not access the Internet.

    I can load all but two of them.

    It will not allow me to load MGTools to C:\ and it will not let me install CCleaner.

    I d/l the copy of CCleaner from the link on the Major Geek link and started the install. It asked me if I wanted it to do the "update" and I said NO .... however, when it actually begins the install, it says it is trying to "update" and it hangs ... I have to use "task manager" to stop the install once it hangs.

    Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

    So just to clarify, you are able to run:

    • Malware Bytes
    • Hitman Pro
    • RogueKiller

    ? Let me know. :)

    The instructions tell you that you can save it to your Desktop if necessary! The below is from the instructions

    I did read that I could put MGTools on the Desktop, but I wanted to explain what the situation is currently.

    Also, I wanted to know, since CCleaner is the first program to run in the instructions, do I need to follow the exact order the programs are listed in.

    That is why I have not "run" the programs as of yet .... however, I do have an update:

    We moved the computer to the same room as mine so I could more easily work on it and have access to mine. When we booted it back up, it will now access the Internet. This is not the first time we have rebooted it since the problem started, but, it is the first it has allowed access to the Internet since the problem started.

    So, should I go ahead and run any/all of the programs?

    I don't know what you are referring to exactly.

    Yes, best to be safe. :)

    Under "RUN AND READ ME FIRST", Step 5 says to run CCleaner.

    Step 6 says has the instructions for the various versions of Windows. The instructions for Windows 8, Step 3 says:

    Do the scans have to be run in this order?

    Re run Hitman and have it delete Potential Unwanted Programs.

    http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9659/rktigzy.gif Fix items using RogueKiller.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the Registry tab and locate these detections:

    • [IFEO] HKLM\[...]\bitguard.exe : Debugger (tasklist.exe [x]) -> FOUND
    • [IFEO] HKLM\[...]\bprotect.exe : Debugger (tasklist.exe [x]) -> FOUND
    • [IFEO] HKLM\[...]\browserdefender.exe : Debugger (tasklist.exe [x]) -> FOUND
    • [IFEO] HKLM\[...]\browserprotect.exe : Debugger (tasklist.exe [x]) -> FOUND
    • [APPINIT][SUSP PATH] HKLM\[...]\Windows : AppInit_DLLs (C:\PROGRA~3\Wincert\WIN64C~1.DLL C:\PROGRA~2\MOVIES~1\Datamngr\x64\mgrldr.dll [-][7]) -> FOUND

    Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
    When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
    Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • O2 - BHO: Search-Results Toolbar - {377e5d4d-77e5-476a-8716-7e70a9272da0} - C:\PROGRA~2\SEARCH~1\Datamngr\SRTOOL~1\searchresultsDx.dll (file missing)
    • O3 - Toolbar: Search-Results Toolbar - {377e5d4d-77e5-476a-8716-7e70a9272da0} - C:\PROGRA~2\SEARCH~1\Datamngr\SRTOOL~1\searchresultsDx.dll (file missing)
    • O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\progra~3\wincert\win32c~1.dll

    NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Delete these if they show:
    • C:\ProgramData\BitGuard
    • C:\ProgramData\BrowserProtect
    • C:\ProgramData\Wincert
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Search Results Toolbar
    • C:\PROGRA~2\SEARCH~1\Datamngr

    http://imageshack.us/a/img841/7292/thisisujrt.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Now re run RogueKiller, just a scan and attach log.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    I completed the steps you instructed.

    Hitman did not report any "Potential Unwanted Programs" as far as I could tell

    I could not find:

    [APPINIT][SUSP PATH] HKLM\[...]\Windows : AppInit_DLLs (C:\PROGRA~3\Wincert\WIN64C~1.DLL C:\PROGRA~2\MOVIES~1\Datamngr\x64\mgrldr.dll [-][7]) -> FOUND

    or

    C:\PROGRA~2\SEARCH~1\Datamngr

    The scans ran OK as far as I know. I did keep getting warnings that I kept having to say "allow" during the MGTools getbat

    I also had to "rename" the RKreport files with the [2] and [3] because they all showed up with [0] and the additional info that is still in the name

    I guess it is working OK since I was able to submit this post from the computer we are working on, but my daughter is not here right now to tell if se notices anything out of the ordinary.

    I have attached the logs ... let me know if I missed any logs

    Download and run OTM.

    Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    Code:
    :Files
    C:\ProgramData\BitGuard
    C:\ProgramData\BrowserProtect

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

    NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    I believe everything is: :cloud9

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
