    HI,

Have made this system image via windows 7 backup and restore utility.

I have the image in several backup locations.

    Unfortunately I have 2 drives -
the 1st is just C drive (Basic ; NTFS)
the 2nd is a separate HDD divided into partitions (Dynamic ;NTFS)

The system restore utility cannot locate the images which are on the dynamic drive.

I decided to create a second partition on the C drive and copy the windows System Image Backup on to this partition - the restore utility still cannot locate this image .

    What is wrong?

I want to use these images to restore the system .

    Please advise.

Why it does not see the image to restore?

    Mike

Hi Mike. I have just had the same problem.

All was fine with my machine until applying the latest windows update last night.

When I turned it on this morning, I was greeted with:

Error: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might have caused the issue after you install Windows Updates"

Then System Restore tried & also failed, twice, to find a previous restore image.

Miraculously, it started back up, but says the same thing on Desktop.

It must be an issue with the latest update/security fix.

Am on MS site now, trying to find an answer. Will post when I do. Good Luck.

Hi Mike. You don't use system restore to restore a system image created with Windows Backup and Restore, you use the same program that you used to create the image - Windows Backup and Restore - or you can use use a Windows installation disk. System Restore is very different from Backup and Restore. Microsoft! You've gotta love 'em :-D

HI, I think I know what you mean - I have folowed this process

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/restore-your-computer-from-a-system-image-backup

but still does not show up my windowssytsembackup image to restore. I have 3 images of different dates - 1 on a external HDD , 1 on the C drive separate partition and 1 on another internal HDD but is a dynamic disk and therefore apparently cannot be used. BUT they do not even show when trying to do a system restore.

    Help!!!

There are three different methods described there so which did you try, the first?

Are you able to find these backups in Windows Explorer? They are in a folder called SystemImageBackup located at the root of the selected drive.
